Question Is psychological distress before SARS-CoV-2 infection associated with risk of COVID-19–related symptoms lasting 4 weeks or longer, known as post–COVID-19 conditions?
Findings This cohort study found that among participants who did not report SARS-CoV-2 infection at...
So I have no idea what is going on here, because those screenshots with the tweets were pretty confusing to me. But I did spot CF, fibromyalgia and ME here and there in that text.
Edit: I just realized more info was added to the above post a bit later, so mine is a bit redundant now. :)
An abstract published in Ideggyógyászati Szemle Proceedings (Clinical Neuroscience Proceedings) by neurologists at the Hungarian National Institute of Mental Health, Neurology and Neurosurgery. This is the Google translated version:
Post-Covid syndrome autonomic nervous system abnormalities...
This is also how it was explained in my English grammar books (they teach British English here).
Now I actually looked this up in a book I have titled Cambridge Grammar of English (from 2011) because it has a chapter about the grammatical differences between the two (and it is 10 pages long)...
"Risk factors for the chronification of symptoms may include having several symptoms at time of testing and the presence of cognitive symptoms evidenced by a difficulty concentrating. A recent study described the longitudinal evolution of symptoms over 12 months and suggested neurologic symptoms...
Full title:
The chronification of post-COVID condition associated with neurocognitive symptoms, functional impairment and increased healthcare utilization
Abstract
Post-COVID condition is prevalent in 10–35% of cases in outpatient settings, however a stratification of the duration and...
Purpose: Patients with myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) present with a broad spectrum of symptoms, including headache. A simple, yet powerful tool – the pain drawing identifies essential aspects such as pain distribution. The aim with this study was to 1) evaluate the...
"Some studies have raised the possibility that COVID-19 may be causing chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) in post-acute COVID-19 and thus leading to the observed fatigue complications (Deumer et al., 2021; Murga et al., 2021), but in this case, there was no reduction in actual muscle torque nor a...
Abstract
The acute phase of COVID-19 has been well studied, however with increasing post-acute COVID-19 syndrome, much is unknown about its long-term effects. A common symptom in both the acute and post-acute phases has been fatigue, assessed predominantly qualitatively.
Here we present a...
Correction: I just realized I mixed up my cortisol result with my ACTH result. My cortisol level is great, it is actually right in the middle of perfect. So at least in my EBV triggered case, we can rule out any cortisol involvement. It is not even a little bit low.
Thanks for this @Andy and @Hutan .
My cortisol level (and some other endocrine values) will be checked on Monday at Semmelweis University. It was my GP's idea but also the endocrinologist at the University offered me to do these tests, admittedly because that's the only thing he can do about...
Found an interview in English with Michael Stingl, Austrian neurologist who specializes in ME/CFS.
Long-Covid treatment: instead of inaction – use existing medication!
As a doctor, what do you need to better treat patients with ME/CFS and Long Covid?
The big problem with ME/CFS is that we...
Abstract
Background
ME/CFS is a disorder characterized by recurrent fatigue and intolerance to exertion which manifests as profound post-exertional malaise. Prevalence studies internationally have reported highly variable results due to the 20 + diagnostic criteria. For Australia, the prevalence...
Here in Hungary you couldn't read literally anything about people being out of work long-term due to long covid until now. The media is really not that much interested in long covid here. But now a few days ago I saw an article about our healthcare system being on the brink of collapse due to a...
I just would like to draw some attention to the National Research Action Plan on Long COVID in @ahimsa's post, in case someone didn't click on the link. These are the parts about ME/CFS:
From the chapter Summary of Partner Input:
The text also mentions ongoing or planned LC studies in...
I've bought the article: most of it was about other, much better defined medical conditions and one paragraph was about ME/CFS. (The Wessely quote was about something unrelated.)
It only said that basically due to the association with HLA alleles and certain measurable immunological differences...
I think I've mentioned it a couple of times that it is really rare here that anyone mentions ME/CFS at all in any context (and they don't mean simply chronic fatigue by it). We aren't really actively chased by psychiatrists here so much, we are just simply ignored usually and everyone is...
Axcella previews long Covid registrational trial plans for AXA1125
"Earlier this morning, Axcella announced results for a 41-patient Phase IIa trial of AXA1125 in long Covid (NCT05152849). The trial did not meet its primary endpoint of phosphocreatine (PCr) recovery rate following moderate...
