The causal status of pain catastrophizing: an experimental test with healthy participants, 2005, Severeijns et al

I see no excuse in articles for the term pain catastrophizing, with its implication that patients are neurotically exaggerating their pain. If there is a case to be made for the concept, can they not come up with a term that is less insulting?

Hair loss and changes to fingernails

I only had significant hair loss once, many years ago at culinary school. I took the basic course, which was either 4 or 6 months. I had no idea then that culinary school is like boot camp and that chefs would scream and insult us. They weren't all like that, but our head chef was. I started...

Ocular and visual migraine, retinal migraine

I was alone when the white diamonds appeared in my vision. I don't remember this specifically, but I'm certain I would have cussed out loud while it was happening, so would have noticed any speech difficulty. My husband got home about an hour after this incident, and I talked to him with no...

Ocular and visual migraine, retinal migraine

Recently, I was reading in the bathtub, and shimmering white diamonds slowly moved across my visual field. It lasted about 15 minutes, and I had no headache or any other symptoms, during or after. My eye doctor ruled out any kind of visual problem that could have caused it and told me that...

Sleep problems in ME/CFS - discussion thread

I'm finding that if I eat more at dinner than what I'm used to, it helps my sleep. I'm usually finished with dinner around 7:30, and I go to bed a little after midnight. Maybe that much time between dinner and bed leads to blood sugar dips during the night. I could just eat a small snack an...

NHS 'cover your mouth and nose' UK-wide update as H3N2 strain spreads

When you feel a sneeze coming on, you might not have time to get a tissue. Sneezing or coughing into your elbow is better if you aren't wearing a mask. Every time I see someone coughing or sneezing into their hands in public, I'm really glad I'm wearing a mask.

Cleaning tips and recommendations for cleaning products

Each lasts for several months, but the colors are really faded by then. You can put them in the washing machine, but the colors fade more quickly that way. After using one of the dishcloths, I give it a quick rinse and squeeze and maybe once a week put it in a small bowl with dish liquid to soak...

Cleaning tips and recommendations for cleaning products

Do any of you use Swedish dishcloths? They are a combination of cellulose and cotton and can used to wash dishes or wipe surfaces. They are rigid until you wet them. They are more sanitary than ordinary sponges because they are thinner and dry a lot quicker. I hang mine over the faucet to dry...

Long-term use of melatonin supplements to support sleep may have negative health effects

What were the dosages used in the study? Melatonin helps my sleep, and I've taken it for years, but in the lowest available dose I've found, 300 mcg.

    Covid-19 vaccines and vaccinations

The Novavax shot gave me increased fatigue and brainfog for a couple of days, and then I was back to baseline. I'm so glad I was able to get vaccinated.

Review COVID-19 is "Airborne AIDS": Provocative oversimplification, emerging science, or something in between? Salamon, Pretorius et al, 2025

What I find frustrating is that covid is largely airborne, and, considering the ridiculous politicization of masking, we in the U.S. could have encouraged better ventilation and air purification in public spaces to lower covid transmission. Maybe generous tax breaks for complying businesses...

"COVID Isn’t a Cold. It’s Cigarettes All Over Again" by David Ramsey

In my area these days, local news isn't covering information about asymptomatic covid. On another thread, I talked about how my ENT's office had 3 asymptomatic cases diagnosed through PCR in 1 1/2 weeks. The patients had no idea they had covid. I think there's an assumption that mild and...

Trial Report Solriamfetol improves daily fatigue symptoms in adults with [ME/CFS] after 8 weeks of treatment, 2025, Young et al

I take Solriamfetol (brand name Sunosi in U.S.). It's comes in 75 MG and 150 MG. I split the lower dosage, so take 37.5 MG. I don't find it energizing, but it acts as a subtle mood lift. For some reason, I also find it calming, but given how it works, I don't know why that is.

    Covid-19 vaccines and vaccinations

I'll get the updated Novavax vaccine as soon as it's available. It's been approved for use in the U.S. for people 65 and older, and, as with Moderna and Pfizer, people aged 12-64 can supposedly get it if they can prove high risk of severe covid. Pointless hoops! @ahimsa, sorry to hear that your...
