Blog: A totally useless therapy for benign and malign conditions – where is the difference? - Edzard Ernst

Now imagine a different scenario; imagine instead he had claimed that PoToNaPo is a talking therapy that by its very nature positively biases self reports of effectiveness. Let’s furthermore imagine that our charlatan is very successful with these claims. No, this is not far fetched! Think of …...

Why health anxiety needs to be recognised in hospital practice, 2020, Tyrer

My biggest health anxiety is that some idiot doctor might diagnose me with health anxiety thus preventing access to appropriate services.

UK Planned study: Feasibility of investigating VO2, HR, BP, lactic acid and activity of pwME during normal daily activity, 2020/21, Clague-Baker et al

Good to hear, I feel like this is exactly the sort of research that should be being done, there has got to be something somewhere objectively measurable going on causing exercise intolerance. Has it not been done before ? It's a pretty depressing thought if it has really taken this long to get...

It's a hard call to make on what level of censorship is optimal, on the one hand anti-vaxers, COVID deniers, and bleach promoters pose serious harm and potential to cause many deaths, on the other hand plenty of psych's would like this site shut down for what they believe to be harmful...

UK - Resources for help getting food during quarantine and other supermarket related problems

As far as I know I'm not registered for anything, I've not even bothered trying as I've not seen a GP for years and so don't have much in the way of evidence to provide, perhaps the slots vary by region.

Tesco added a 4th week of slots today (was only showing 3 weeks of slots yesterday), as of right now for me that week is showing as mostly available.

Trial By Error: A Post About Lupus and MUS, Not COVID

Makes me wonder how many people diagnosed with MUS actually do have lupus (or similar) who we have no data on as they will die never finding this out due to being denied any further investigations as a waste of time.

UK - Resources for help getting food during quarantine and other supermarket related problems

Like some others I was able to get a Tesco slot yesterday (in 3 weeks time) by logging in a little before midnight and waiting in an online queue for about 30 minutes. So that was a big relief to know that the food supply is secured for a couple more weeks.

Pointless article in the Independent newspaper today, it just lists every supermarket and says no delivery slots available, thanks really helpful! Which supermarkets have delivery slots available?

Just saw this and might keep it bookmarked in case of emergency, I suspect you'll get a load of random stuff that is not particularly nice though else it would have gone already. https://www.mirror.co.uk/money/coronavirus-morrisons-delivering-boxes-weeks-21747759

Functional Neurological Disorders (FNDs) in the media

Another depressing thing is the FND expert is likely earning £100k to dispense her wisdom, though it probably has a good ROI as once she confirms an FND diagnosis the patients are mostly denied any further costly neurological services.

Functional Neurological Disorders (FNDs) in the media

Well I've watched it, it's every bit as bad as it sounded. It's utterly one sided, these poor people suffering seizures that are ruining their lives are delighted to finally get a diagnosis only to wait 18 months to see an FND specialist who informs them that in most cases the cause is...

Functional Neurological Disorders (FNDs) in the media

There is a detailed synopsis here https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000ggj6/hospital-series-5-episode-6 It doesn't look promising, seems as usual they are reasoning not being able to find something equals something not existing. Although 66-year-old Pauline has been left severely disabled...
