There is an interesting interview with Dr Charlotte Houldcroft (virologist at the University of Cambridge) on The Guardian website looking at the question of whether the UK’s recommended 7 day isolation period is long enough:
Covid-19: is seven days in isolation enough...
There was a brief but fascinating segment on Newsnight tonight about the possibility that the Covid-19 virus was man made. Emily Maitlis put the following question to Mark Urban:
“When we asked that question, which sounded ridiculous a few weeks ago - if the virus could be manmade - is that...

Thank you @Mij. I’m sorry to hear how bad the situation is with care homes in Canada. It sounds like the same thing is happening in many countries around the world, it’s just so tragic.
Within hours of posting this, I have now learnt that there has been an outbreak of Covid-19 in my dear 94 year old Gran’s care home and she herself has become infected. She is now being treated in hospital but we have been advised that there is no chance of her coming through. :(
I think...
As far as I can see, the evidence on how well home made masks protect the wearer from viruses appears to be inconclusive. It’s still possible that a well fitting home-made mask which is made from material which filters as well (or nearly as well) as a respirator mask, might offer offer a very...
The gross incompetence of Public Health England was revealed last night on Channel 4 news. They showed the following extract from the PHE document entitled “Guidance for social or community and residential settings on Covid-19” (published 25 Feb 2020)...
I would appear to have been put on the government’s extremely vulnerable list, presumably because of the recent correspondence I had with my GP about this. I have received what I assume is the standard NHS shielding letter. It came from my GP and says
Here’s the full letter:
So it’s still...
Good advice from Prof Dale Fisher (chair of the WHO's Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network and a professor at the National University of Singapore):
Does anyone know where in the WHO guidelines it says that those recovering from Covid-19 should continue to self-isolate for at least 14 days after symptoms disappear? I’ve seen this quoted on Twitter but I can’t find the source of it on the WHO website. Also, can anyone outside the UK share...
Yes, exactly that. I think is an extremely helpful article which would benefit from being widely circulated. So here’s the link again (please all share!):

NHS developing app to trace close contacts of coronavirus carriers

That’s very encouraging isn’t it, that the antibody-mediated immunity appears to last as long as 3 years? So medical staff who are returning to work after recovering from the virus should be safe from reinfection, at least until we have a vaccine (which, as I understand, is expected to happen...
The Italians have also come up with guidelines on how to allocate limited health resources:

Yes it was on Newsnight but the idea has come from a new document issued by the British Medical Association which sets out guidelines on how to ration care if the NHS is overwhelmed. This is the section relating to prioritising key workers:
(My bolding)...
I had a reply to my email to the CEO for Ocado:
So that sounds promising.
If you don’t get an acceptable response from your first point of contact to your preferred supermarket (as I didn’t), it might be worth making a complaint.
According to The Guardian, the World Health Organisation is now considering changing it’s guidance on wearing face masks:
