The science of craniocervical instability and other spinal issues and their possible connection with ME/CFS - discussion thread

Jen Brea: "I can’t help but wonder if these same folks would have been some of the worst skeptics and gaslighters of PWME, if they did not happen to have it themselves." What a horrible thing to say

The science of craniocervical instability and other spinal issues and their possible connection with ME/CFS - discussion thread

Jen Brea:"The conversation has gotten so ridiculous that some people showed me a thread where other people with ME wondered whether those of us with CCI have a form, of “mass hysteria.” Nobody said that? I remember someone writing that people who think ME is psychological might twist the...

Intra brainstem connectivity is impaired in chronic fatigue syndrome, Barnden et al., 2019

Yea i assumed its about neural connections? Just puzzled there is no clear definition of whats actually found (maybe there is and i just didn't see it)

No it was 98 % some years ago, but I guess i phrased it an unusual order:)

    Mild sleep apnea

Yea that seems like a feasible explanation doesn`t it? Lol i wondered about that too, but at least it was convenient for sharing them here

    Mild sleep apnea

So for some years now i have had episodes where i wake up feeling anxious/outofit, and with a fast heartbeat. I thought it made sense to check for sleep apnea Results: The doctor said its completely normal, but as far as I understand 5 apneas per hour is considered mild sleep apnea, and I...

Is ME a metabolic problem or a signalling problem?

At the moment ME/CFS could be due to one or multiple disease mechanisms. There`s no good reason to call it a mitochondrial disease either. It`s a syndrome, a diagnosis based on excluding more well known diseases

    Low oxygen SPO2 anyone?

I just checked before going to bed and after during a sleep study, and mine was alternating between 93-95 mostly. 4 years ago (one year after getting sick) it was 98..

Intra brainstem connectivity is impaired in chronic fatigue syndrome, Barnden et al., 2019

I love this study too! One thing I wondered is what exactly is meant by "connectivity impairment"?

Chapter Five - Recent insights into innate and adaptive immune responses to Giardia, 2019, Singer et al

I did a immune panel once where they found that "Approximately 33 % of the CD4+ T-lymphocytes are CD45RA and CDRO double positive. This finding has uncertain meaning, and should be controlled with new tests at a later time. The rest of the T-cell subpopulations has normal distribution." The doc...

Naltrexone restores impaired transient receptor potential melastatin 3 ion channel function in NK cells from ME/CFS patients, Cabanas et al, 2019

I don`t like it when researchers are fishing for money like this.. I know it helps, but the chances seem very big for this to be a random finding with no relevance to the disease process of ME

Is ME a metabolic problem or a signalling problem?

@alex3619 Thanks for clarifying, I suspected there was something i misunderstood, as I thought u were in lactic acidosis if u were over 4 mmol/l even if it was transient. I guess our situation is closer to hyperlactatemia (2 mmol/l to 4 mmol/l) usually

Is ME a metabolic problem or a signalling problem?

Theres a FB-group where ME-patients upload their lactic acid tests results, and given that these devices are somewhat reliable, many of them have readings in lactic acidosis territory. Saw this on Wikipedia: "Lactic acidosis sometimes occurs without hypoxia, for example, in rare inborn errors...

In vitro and in vivo Effects of Lactate on Metabolism and Cytokine Production of Human Primary PBMCs and Monocytes, 2019, Ratter et al

Might this be why ME-patients often have sky high lactate readings, especially after physical activity? Ive always assumed its due to our muscles not functioning well, but maybe it could be due to how the immune system reacts to said physical activity..

Neuroinflammation disorders exacerbated by environmental stressors, 2019, O'Callaghan & Miller

Decent article. I feel like investigating the cause for "sickness behavior" probably wont lead anywhere though.. I highly doubt this theory that were genetically stuck in some dauer larvae state, but Ive lately thought what Jonathan thought about ME potentially being a signalling disease, due to...
