According to the original research plan the exertion bit was for the participants to read something, eat something and take a 5-minute walk. But it seems they changed it to reading something, doing some sort of social activity/test(?) and cycling on a stationary bike without resistance.

I doubt it. I've never heard of it. I tried googling a literal translation of the expression, but I got no results at all in Swedish.
