Pacing up - why it's as harmful and unevidenced as GET

From the couple of paragraphs I've read so far @Trish this looks spot on. I've been doing too much reading lately so don't have many words in me today, except to say the cummulative effect of pacing up cannot be under-stated, nor the inherent fluctuating nature of the illness which can, and is...

ME/CFS Research at the Quadram Institute, Norwich, UK

I remember when they first started looking at faecal transplants and my husband remarking that it would be typical of me to have an illness where this could end up being one of the treatments. He passed away 10 years ago. I wonder how much research funding has gone to BPS research...

David Tuller’s talks “Bad Science, Bad Medicine: How Flawed Biopsychosocial Studies on ME, Long Covid and Related Illnesses Harm Patients.”

Looking through some documents I printed when I was first diagnosed I came across this paragraph under the heading on page 21, 'Good practice points' in the Occupational Aspects of the Management of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: a National Guideline 2006: Good Practice Points Never come across...

Explaining persistent physical symptoms to patients in general practice: can tests to measure central sensitisation add value? 2024, den Boer et al

Agreed. It's exactly that type of advice which could end up in a late diagnosis of cancer, endometriosis, all sorts. Just because we are diagnosed with CFS doesn't mean we don't have other illnesses.

Explaining persistent physical symptoms to patients in general practice: can tests to measure central sensitisation add value? 2024, den Boer et al

I had to double check on central sensitisation. Found this video. Just keep telling the patient it's their maladaptive beliefs are the sole cause of their problems!

Review Interventions for the management of long covid post-covid condition: living systematic review, 2024, Zeraatkar, Flottorp, Garner, Busse+

I've only just seen this thread and haven't read all the comments so apologies if this duplicates, but I was about to start going through some Cochrane reading material. My first question was also what the hell is a Living systematic review?? Reading the following from Cochrane, isn't this...

Petition: S4ME 2023 - Cochrane: Withdraw the harmful 2019 Exercise therapy for CFS review

Interesting. So like many professions such as human resources have the CIPD to keep them up to date, seeking professional current legal advice on a legal matter etc. The whole thing begins with the correct diagnosis and that depends on education and training and application, a root and branch...

Petition: S4ME 2023 - Cochrane: Withdraw the harmful 2019 Exercise therapy for CFS review

Most nations have enshrined the principles of the 1948 Declaration of human rights, freedoms and responsibilities into their local laws. Is there a link to the Australian and New Zealand versions? ETA: Montgomery v. Lanarkshire Healthboard [2015] Supreme Court case is a common law case. It...

Petition: S4ME 2023 - Cochrane: Withdraw the harmful 2019 Exercise therapy for CFS review

Can someone please clue me up on (with evidential links if possible) exactly who the target audience for a Cochrane Review is designed to be? Obviously researchers but who on the medical frontline treating patients would actually check up on them, or is it just policy makers and management...
