    Coping with heat

Poor thermal regulation is a problem. Get an old thick jacket, denim is good. Soak it in water, squeeze it out so it is not dripping too much. Put it on and sit near a fan or breeze. Works well for keeping core temp down, especially if you don't move about much. I removed the sleeves from mine...

Crowdfunding for David Tuller during April 2025

I have been wondering if the updates by the Berkely site on the total amount are being unusually delayed. Seems to have been quite stagnant/slow for a few days. Though in the US and UK at least money is even tighter now for the average patient.

Opinion What are the top replicated ME/CFS findings?

And that is the the most generous possible interpretation.

News from the USA, United States of America

Well, yes. Of course medicos need to communicate clearly. But the problem isn't so much miscommunication, as that what they are communicating, explicitly and implicitly, is unevidenced garbage, or simply disinterest and sometimes outright hostility.

Reddit - Interesting posts on Reddit, including what some doctors say about ME/CFS

Me too. The 'new' interface is a hot user hostile mess. One of the worst cases of enshittification I know of on the internet. Profit!

WASF3 disrupts mitochondrial respiration and may mediate exercise intolerance in myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome, 2023 Hwang et al

Me too. Long been interested in how the extra-cellular matrix is behaving mechanically in ME/CFS, including the so-called amorphous component. :geek:

Reduced microstructural white matter integrity is associated with the severity of physical symptoms in [FND], 2025, Gninenko, Müller, Aybek

Again, where is the functional bit in the finding of altered structures? There is now only one way out of this for the medical profession: completely drop the whole FND category and concept, fire those responsible for inflicting this cruel travesty on the world, and start again from scratch...

News from the USA, United States of America

Kennedy is so nothing more than proving beyond doubt all the deep concerns and fears people had about him before he got the job.

Mixed methods study of views and experience of non-hospitalised individuals with long COVID of using pacing interventions, 2024, McMullan et al

There is absolutely no evidence that patients lack motivation. None. If by improving activity planning they mean increased opportunity to implement plans then that might be true, to some modest degree. But if they mean we get more skilled at planning, in the improved cognitive ability sense...

News from Aotearoa/New Zealand and the Pacific Islands

Surprisingly good, particularly considering the other news often coming out of NZ on post-infection stuff.

Measuring the fitted filtration efficiency of cloth masks, medical masks and respirators, 2025, Tomkins et al.

Masks sometimes come in two versions, one shaped for Asian faces, and another for everybody else. Might be worth checking that out.

Measuring the fitted filtration efficiency of cloth masks, medical masks and respirators, 2025, Tomkins et al.

Quite extraordinary and disturbing, isn't it. So much suffering and death could have been prevented by a simple, cheap, safe, proven protection. Yet here we are. Somehow it has become thoroughly politicised and demonised, probably beyond repair any time soon.

Opinion What are the top replicated ME/CFS findings?

This is an important factor in general to control for in ME/CFS research, not just for ESR. I suspect we are going to see two different overall profiles: one during the initial stages, then a change to a different profile after that. I would need to check, but IIRC I had a low ESR early on...

Protocol Impact of Tai Chi Therapy on Fatigue and Cognitive Function in Individuals With Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: Protocol for a Pilot... 2025 Wang et al

Isometric exercises are excellent, for the rest of the population, but not for me any more. Pre-ME I used to score high in general fitness tests and exercise capacity. Suddenly I didn't and couldn't any more, at least not without sometimes extreme payback.

Review Impact of Exercise to Treat Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome: A Systematic Review, 2025, Cortez et al

Adding a comma makes a lot more sense. ...and can result in a worsening of a constellation of symptoms, leading to extreme fatigue, cognitive impairment and flu-like symptoms within hours or days after exertion, lasting days to weeks.

Protocol Impact of Tai Chi Therapy on Fatigue and Cognitive Function in Individuals With Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: Protocol for a Pilot... 2025 Wang et al

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a psychosomatic disorder characterized by persistent fatigue, primarily involving physical and mental exhaustion, with greater emphasis on the latter. So much wrong in so few words. That takes some skill.
