Psychiatric conference in Norway nov. 2019 themed "Stressology" (Wyller among lecturers)

I haven't followed this or listened to the lecture. I didn't actually mind the principle of testing whether GET, and CBT, works for people with ME - as I type that I realise that GET for people with disabling fatigue, how do you get that past an ethics committee? One of the things which bugs me...

    Covid-19 vaccines and vaccinations

I've been meaning to post this; it's from last Fridays Independent Sage YouTube broadcast: "Over 1 million people had their 1st dose by 3rd Jan. Now over 3 weeks out. Are they tracking outcomes? Will they make them public? And by age?" - see slide 14 minutes from the start So I think the...

Trisha Greenhalgh on ME/CFS and Long Covid

Yip I was reprimanded, by my significant other, when I relayed concerns [from this forum] about TG --- TG promoted the use of face masks ----. To be fair the concerns about TG [on social media] have now been acknowledged.

Trisha Greenhalgh on ME/CFS and Long Covid

I think the other thing here is that the controversy may mean that the Government/politicians cannot support them (fund their research) i.e. ---Gerada, Greenhalgh, Garner, Vogt, Larun, Sharpe, Wessely, Fox, Wyller, Cochrane... If they are getting strong community support then the Government may...

Trisha Greenhalgh on ME/CFS and Long Covid

I don't mean to be bitter or twisted here (it comes naturally!). I think Maureen Hanson's son is ill with ME and you can see how she's attempted to understand the disease [proteomics paper*]. If these people (TG+) applied the "you & yours test", my neighbour a casualty doctor refers to it, would...

In-Depth Analysis of the Plasma Proteome in ME/CFS Exposes Disrupted Ephrin-Eph and Immune System Signaling, 2021, Hanson et al

It's occurred to me that this technique [aptamer-based proteomics] is similar to genome-wide association study (GWAS). I.e. you don't know what the cause [of ME] is and you measure everything - in the hope you find something different between people with ME & healthy controls. OK the authors...

In-Depth Analysis of the Plasma Proteome in ME/CFS Exposes Disrupted Ephrin-Eph and Immune System Signaling, 2021, Hanson et al

Thanks. I'm laughing here - you obviously understand this much better than I do - which is great.

In-Depth Analysis of the Plasma Proteome in ME/CFS Exposes Disrupted Ephrin-Eph and Immune System Signaling, 2021, Hanson et al

I recall this paper which compared Lyme and ME [https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/21383843/] It's a protein study of Lyme and CFS - data is presented in the way you suggest. So yea, an update which used this technique Aptamers would seem to be in order --- would it need to be expanded to include...

In-Depth Analysis of the Plasma Proteome in ME/CFS Exposes Disrupted Ephrin-Eph and Immune System Signaling, 2021, Hanson et al

Thank you Snow Leopard. Vaguely recall a guy in a corner of the lab (30+ years ago!) working on biotin binding ---- not sure that's at all relevant! I expect that once you've identified compounds of interest then you can determine them using other methods. E.g. if you Google "Ephrin-Eph + mass...

In-Depth Analysis of the Plasma Proteome in ME/CFS Exposes Disrupted Ephrin-Eph and Immune System Signaling, 2021, Hanson et al

I need to look at the data but I think I formed the impression that the group of patients selected demonstrated an issue re Disrupted Ephrin-Eph and Immune System Signaling If that's correct then perhaps many people with ME have a similar underlying problem --- too early to say though.

Paul Garner on Long Covid and ME/CFS - BMJ articles and other media.

"I've learnt a lot about my own body and about how to recover and like Clare, like the importance of gentle exercise and positive thinking to take you forward out of it..............." Gave me a laugh! What follows is pretty good too i.e. funny/hilarious. Maybe congratulate the interviewer...

In-Depth Analysis of the Plasma Proteome in ME/CFS Exposes Disrupted Ephrin-Eph and Immune System Signaling, 2021, Hanson et al

I'd never even heard of this technique "To gain insights into the molecular disruptions in ME/CFS, we utilized an aptamer-based technology that quantified 4790 unique human proteins, allowing us to obtain the largest proteomics dataset yet available for this disease, detecting highly abundant...

Hypothesis: Mechanisms That Prevent Recovery in Prolonged ICU Patients Also Underlie ME/CFS: 2021, Stanculescu, Larsson and Bergquist

Jaime Seltzer [ME Action] mentioned that you could "diagnose" ME from hormone patterns.

Hypothesis: Mechanisms That Prevent Recovery in Prolonged ICU Patients Also Underlie ME/CFS: 2021, Stanculescu, Larsson and Bergquist

Seems related to me check out references to signalling problem in Fluge & Mella's 2016 study "According to this model, ME/CFS is caused by immune interference with an unidentified target, potentially a signaling factor, which ultimately causes metabolic dysfunction and induction of secondary...

Hypothesis: Mechanisms That Prevent Recovery in Prolonged ICU Patients Also Underlie ME/CFS: 2021, Stanculescu, Larsson and Bergquist

Here are a couple of extracts "In sum, the HPA axis dysfunctions in ME/CFS are not unlike the dysfunctions in prolonged critical illness. However, to our knowledge a comprehensive study of the pituitary pulsatile secretions of ACTH in ME/CFS patients—which proved revelatory in understanding...

The biology of coronavirus COVID-19 - including research and treatments

The Astrazenica vaccine started to be used around 4th January [https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-55525542] So lets say 11th January for general rollout. 14 days to develop immunity [25th January] deterioration, requiring hospitalisation, usually occur 10 days after infection [infected 25th -...

Paul Garner on Long Covid and ME/CFS - BMJ articles and other media.

I haven't been following this but I'm wondering if someone can explain what these words refer to "over-egged the 'physical' side with mast cell activation and whatnot"? Thanks

The possibility of autoimmunity or auto-reactivity in ME/CFS

Thanks - Googled and I assume this is Chris Ponting's T-cell project - correct? https://www.actionforme.org.uk/research-and-campaigns/biomedical-research/research-we-fund/comparing-immune-cells/
