Trial Report Home-based testing protocol to measure physiological responses to everyday activities in ME: a feasibility study, 2023, Clague-Baker et al

I have nothing but praise for the authors and the quality of their work. They wrote their paper at a level any college graduate can understand. They conducted a novel experiment, made a real effort to accommodate pwME, presented their findings straightforwardly, and emphasize the points that are...

The kynurenine pathway relates to post-acute COVID-19 objective cognitive impairment and PASC, 2023, Cysique et al

They found an increased ratio of kynurenine to tryptophan, the opposite of what Ron Davis's metabolic trap hypothesis would predict.

WASF3 disrupts mitochondrial respiration and may mediate exercise intolerance in myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome, 2023 Hwang et al

Pretty sure there's a law that US gov't-funded publications must be open access. It is, however, under a Creative Commons license that permits noncommercial distribution, so it's legal to host a copy here despite the journal's attempt to paywall it.

Unpacking differences in post-exercise affective experiences between physically underactive and active individuals 2023 Sala et al

The fact that people who don't exercise also feel good after exercise is additional evidence that pwME aren't merely deconditioned.

Reddit - Interesting posts on Reddit, including what some doctors say about ME/CFS

Funny that most of what they say is right. Here's a heavily edited version: While the premises are right, the conclusion is definitely wrong. But they correctly state that the lack of a test and usage of loose diagnostic criteria (not requiring PEM) likely leads to many people, including some...

Serum ferritin level during hospitalization is associated with Brain Fog after COVID-19, 2023, Ishikura et al

That's a curious result. Usually when ferritin is an issue, it's too low. I wonder if the problem isn't too much iron, but some reaction of the body that increases ferritin during a Covid infection that leaves aftereffects.

Why is Crawley doing biomedical research now? Is her view shifting? Is she unable to get funding for BPS?

USA: The RECOVER Initiative - Long Covid research

He asked them about how they'd get additional funding now that almost all the money has been set aside. He said that there's enough funds to complete the trials that have been announced. But he didn't explain plans to fund additional trials, just that they'll have to figure it out.

USA: The RECOVER Initiative - Long Covid research

At some point you start to think "screw it, let the physicists to have at it." The culture is so different. Physicists in 1774 didn't know the mass of the Earth, so they devised a plan to calculate it by putting a pendulum next to a mountain. Meanwhile, doctors in 2023 still think that if the...

    Media articles about endometriosis

The headline and plot has a nice irony. Hysteria originally meant a wandering uterus. And endometriosis is when uterine tissue begins forming where it shouldn't, the closest thing to literal hysteria you can get. I don't know what else to say. There are so many stories of medical gaslighting...

Anomalies in the review process and interpretation of the evidence in the NICE guideline for (CFS & ME), 2023, White et al

Review Repeated maximal exercise tests of peak oxygen consumption in people with ME/CFS: a systematic review and meta-analysis, Franklin & Graham, 2022

Found a nice little typo: Elicit: To bring out Illicit: Illegal Or perhaps the authors are onto something. PEM should be a crime.
