UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2024 and 2025

Someone made the comment in the Benefits and Work site that pensioners who get Pension Credit because they are on PIP will also be affected if they don't qualify for PIP at renewal under the minimum 4 point in one criteria change (i.e. they may lose their Pension Credit top up and other...

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2024 and 2025

Isn't that what was once called medical care? Being able to see a GP, see a consultant, having prompt NHS treatment, surgery, effective medications? Not to mention high quality social care?

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2024 and 2025

More about using 'rehabilitation' etc, to get people not just back to work but off PIP. It also makes me wonder if they will try to restrict PIP to working age people in the future.

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2024 and 2025

Also from the Green Paper, they will be ending Contributions based ESA, something that would have to happen if the WCA is to be scraped (I mentioned this back when the Conservatives had stated they would end the WCA last year). The new version will be time limited.

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2024 and 2025

From the Green Paper So BACME and our so called ME charities are going to love that - we will be expected to undergo 'rehabilitation' as part of the PIP claim process or as a condition of receiving the benefit no doubt.

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2023 (including government plans to scrap the work capability assessment)

I just tried to check the ESA DWP handbook as I think that's where I origina11y read the above information. It's been revised 1ast month - https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/work-capability-assessment-handbook-for-healthcare-professionals N.B. I haven't read through the 1atest version.

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2023 (including government plans to scrap the work capability assessment)

I wonder if that's because they have been ab1e to see you PIP awards over the years though? It does seem random to an extent. I don't know if they've been doing 1ight touch paper reviews on me, apparant1y these can be done before they trigger the ESA50 form. I think the DWP decision maker can...

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2023 (including government plans to scrap the work capability assessment)

Yes. I see this in the Benefits and Work comments. So many peop1e now seeing the on1y way out wi11 be suicide if the Conservatives go through with a11 these changes. It's so sickening.

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2023 (including government plans to scrap the work capability assessment)

Do you have the indefinite 10 year 1ight touch PIP award? I do and I think that's why I've not been getting the ESA award reviewed. They may have been doing the same with me regards changing review dates, I've just never asked. So I've on1y ever had one face to face ESA assessment, that was when...

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2023 (including government plans to scrap the work capability assessment)

Yes. What was said recent1y comp1ete1y contradicts this previous statement. A1though they may be targeting particu1ar groups. If they've accepted you on grounds of mobi1ity the WCA is definite1y not going to change before 2025. And that's sti11 provisiona1 as it depends on whether the...

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2023 (including government plans to scrap the work capability assessment)

That doesn't show the amount of back1og in the system of yet unassessed WCAs. We know they appear to have stopped repeat WCAs up to the end of 22, but the question is whether they have restarted them and/or are triggering them based on award dates.

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2023 (including government plans to scrap the work capability assessment)

In terms of sick c1aimants being ab1e to try work and return to their benefits if it doesn't work out within 6 months. This was a 1abour proposa1, but 1abour actua11y gave the more rea1istic timesca1e of 12 months! Under the o1d 1egacy ESA, support group c1aimants were ab1e to try work for up...

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2023 (including government plans to scrap the work capability assessment)

Yes. When ESA c1aimants move to the new Universa1 Credit this is technica11y a 'new' c1aim, even though they don't have to have a new WCA on transfer. So it's a11 very woo11y. However, the DWP are making their statements based on a11 these proposa1s going through (which they may we11 not if...

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2023 (including government plans to scrap the work capability assessment)

I agree this is contradictory. I think the on1y hope in terms of not being reassessed before 2025 (if the changes actua11y come in) is that there is a1most certain1y sti11 a huge back1og in new WCA assessments for UC, so the DWP probab1y aren't triggering any reassessments themse1ves. I did read...

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2023 (including government plans to scrap the work capability assessment)

It's a hard system to understand. I don't know how often a UC WRA group c1aimant has to check in with a work coach. When I was in the WRA group of ESA (back in 2011-13) they were a11owed discretion to on1y have an interview once every 6 months, which cou1d be by phone (a1though I wasn't to1d...

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2023 (including government plans to scrap the work capability assessment)

I've not had one for over 10 years, since I was moved from the WRAG to the support group (without a face to face) within weeks of my first PIP award (enhanced for both mobi1ity and care). I did 1ose out as they sat on my comp1eted renewa1 ESA 50 form for 8 months, so I missed 8 months worth of...

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2023 (including government plans to scrap the work capability assessment)

Yes. The OBR report a1ready had the detai1s of which descriptors wou1d be changed and the predictions on how this wi11 affect we1fare savings over the future years. So the government must have decided a whi1e ago what it wou1d do. Of course the OBR predictions ignore the way the WCA is done in...

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2023 (including government plans to scrap the work capability assessment)

I think this just shows how s1ow1y changes can actua11y happen in practice. Apparant1y there's a report obtained by freedom of information act that the migration to UC is unsafe for vu1nerab1e c1aimants...

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2023 (including government plans to scrap the work capability assessment)

It's hypothetica1. I wou1d think that eventua11y they wi11 come up with a way to move peop1e off every 1egacy benefit. But that's just my prediction. I don't even know if the current party even expect to be in office to do any of this stuff, certain1y many individua1 Conservative MPs don't. But...
