2025: The 2019/24 Cochrane Larun review Exercise Therapy for CFS - including IAG, campaign, petition, comments and articles

They are very careful always to say their reviews are not guidance, they are unbiased (har har) evidence summaries. Which guideline developers can use. NICE decided the Cochrane review wasn't good enough [edit - I think they would not say "not good enough" but "not suitable") to use, but were...

In British media, a reverse ferret is a sudden reversal in an organisation's editorial or political line on a certain issue. Generally, this will involve no acknowledgement of the previous position I actually didn't know where the phrase originated, but I do know about ferrets and trousers (not...

my guess is reverse ferreting for her life. She blocked me on Twitter and then insulted me behind my back for daring to make a joke about her mates Sir Simon and Lady Clare

2025: The 2019/24 Cochrane Larun review Exercise Therapy for CFS - including IAG, campaign, petition, comments and articles

I said this over and over to Hilda and she was determined it would go ahead. I paraphrase, but her response to me was "we're doing it whether you like it or not, and that's that"

I had completely forgotten, but I made a comment https://www.cochranelibrary.com/cdsr/doi/10.1002/14651858.CD011040.pub2/detailed-comment/en?messageId=442838768

This is the review that was abandoned at protocol stage - the one that Jo Edwards saw. White, Glasziou, Sharpe etc. were co-authors!) https://www.cochranelibrary.com/cdsr/doi/10.1002/14651858.CD011040.pub2/full

There's a guy called Andy Oxman, well known in Cochrane, who was at the NIPH at the time, who is also very close with Iain Chalmers. Chalmers is famously hostile to people with ME. He turned very frosty with me in 2019 when he realised I was an ally! Anyway, Oxman was the one that suggested...

2025: The 2019/24 Cochrane Larun review Exercise Therapy for CFS - including IAG, campaign, petition, comments and articles

No, she didn't think it was substandard when she allowed it to be published in 2019. One of the IAG and I met with her in July 2019 and he begged her not to publish it. She told us it was too late and the deal was done. As we found out from correspondence obtained through FOI, the deal was...

2025: The 2019/24 Cochrane Larun review Exercise Therapy for CFS - including IAG, campaign, petition, comments and articles

I sent lots of questions and points I wanted to be recorded, particularly in the beginning. As well as her responses. i was under the impression that anyone who wanted access to the archive could have access to it. And that report of all the criticisms which she promised but never delivered...

I came across this randomly. https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7288507835515101184/. It rings true for Cochrane although it is referring to arts organisations...the Trustees are well out of their depth (scuse the pun).

I hope the collected email correspondence is published, as Hilda promised it would be. And the collated report of criticisms. There is an awful lot to sweep under the carpet...I don't think there's a carpet big enough

2025: The 2019/24 Cochrane Larun review Exercise Therapy for CFS - including IAG, campaign, petition, comments and articles

I have requested that Wiley investigate my complaint of editorial misconduct and they said in November an investigation is underway. I wrote to them on Friday to inform them of the latest developments (see below). My original complaint to Wiley was directed via this site...

2025: The 2019/24 Cochrane Larun review Exercise Therapy for CFS - including IAG, campaign, petition, comments and articles

It doesn't apply to reviews which is classed as secondary research. That's the loophole for Cochrane - they set a protocol for reviews making decisions which may or may not make sense or may or may not be biased. Then they follow it, or adjust it if they feel like it, and if anyone criticises...

2025: The 2019/24 Cochrane Larun review Exercise Therapy for CFS - including IAG, campaign, petition, comments and articles

You're right. And it explains why Larun has started responding to comments again. I will put in another FOI request to NIPH for correspondence between anyone there and Cochrane from June 2019 to now.
