Psychological flexibility as a predictor of work engagement and symptom severity in personnel with chronic fatigue syndrome, 2025, Surendran

People with "psychological flexibility" answer differently on scales. But these people don't understand what scales actually measure so they're confused.

Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome (UARS): a common underlying cause for all "chronic complex illnesses"? (ME/CFS, fibro, GWI, etc.)

Here is the thing, I don't consider daytime sleepiness to be a core symptom of ME/CFS. I have to sleep a lot (10-12 hours), but my usual symptoms are not daytime "tiredness"/"sleepiness", it's physical fatigue, brainfog, permanent headache etc. any orthostatic symptoms for me are only ever a...

Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome (UARS): a common underlying cause for all "chronic complex illnesses"? (ME/CFS, fibro, GWI, etc.)

ME/CFS is not simply a list of vaguely defined symptoms. It's not just sleep doctors but doctors who focus on ME/CFS who can tell the difference. "Tiredness" in particular can mean very different things. The tiredness that a UARS patient experiences is quite different (since it is usually due...

Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome (UARS): a common underlying cause for all "chronic complex illnesses"? (ME/CFS, fibro, GWI, etc.)

I don't think ME/CFS is a single disorder either, due to the lack of specificity of the diagnosis method, but UARS presents quite differently to ME/CFS in terms of symptoms. Some doctors may well misdiagnose it (ME/CFS instead of something else like UARS) because doctors often make mistakes but...

Trial Report Distinct white matter alteration patterns in post-infectious and gradual onset chronic fatigue syndrome revealed by diffusion MRI, 2025, Yu et al

It's barely studied at all unfortunately. There is some discussion here: https://www.mdpi.com/1422-0067/23/19/11852

Paul Garner on Long Covid and ME/CFS - BMJ articles and other media.

I checked and yes, the other divisive subject is his transphobia because of course... The interesting thing is in one case (ME/CFS) the patients are against treatments due to poor quality evidence, in the other case he is trying to say that patients should not be treated due to lack of quality...

There is a lot more than expectancy biases too, but yes I agree he seems to deliberately ignore all of the biases.

O-Glycosylation patterns in Post-viral Fatigue Syndrome: Sialic Acid-preserving Chemical Release, 2025, de Otazo Hernández

They mention an altered O-glycosylation pattern but don't say what the pattern was. The following links to Davide Ret's overall project: https://mrr.mecfs-research.org/en/persons/aY0rj6w-TCOaiyBTqRlpjQ https://www.wwtf.at/funding/programmes/ei/ME-CFS24-016/

Advocates of Research-Supported Treatments for PTSD are Losing in Lots of Ways: What Are We Going to Do About It?, 2025, Cox et al

Well the cited "not science-based" Bessel van der Kolk are bad pseudoscientific writers. The former wrote the junk book "The Body Keeps the Score", and the latter of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somatic_experiencing fame, and wrote his thesis on how stress causes symptoms...

The association between Autism Spectrum Disorder and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. A Care Plan Perspective, 2025, Nida Khubaib

It's a non specific symptom with numerous causes, I wouldn't get too excited about such an association.

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2024 and 2025

UK Labour is no longer a centre-left party that considers peoples needs over the wealthy. It's a deep shame they passed this.

Hypothetical mechanisms for efficacy of Low Dose Naltrexone?

I forgot about this thread. One of the popular hypotheses (of efficacy) is around TLR4 antagonism which putatively can lead to pain sensing nerve densitisation. I'm not sure why it makes some people worse, it may be the base opioid receptor antagonism
