Altered microbiome composition in individuals with fibromyalgia, 2019, Minerbi et al.

I dropped out (never sent in specimens) out of Harvard's Nurses Health Study of gut microbiome in a cohort of nurses. They did have a dietary recall element of test (which I found quite unreliable and complained in the past as to its accuracy, but they assured me that it is okay). So at least...

Energy Conservation Management for People With Multiple Sclerosis–Related Fatigue: Who Benefits? (Blikman et al, 2019)

Once again this illustrates the psych researchers world: feeling superior to sufferers and lacking empathy and well as IQ. This is why I can't bring myself to read any more of their mindfu****g tripe.

    PENE crash and muscle pain

I have moderate-sever fibro with a mild level of PEM (30-35% normal function), probably no ME/CFS diagnosis because I lack the immunologic symptoms such as swollen lymph glands and fever. Whatever the trigger for my pain-exhaustion, if it is bad enough, every sense is heightened and at least...

Response to Vitamin B12 and Folic Acid in ME and Fibromyalgia, 2015, Regland et al

Small retrospective study. No double-blind placebo control. And what is the hypothesis (if any) for a beneficial outcome? What would the theory be? No labs (such as iron status, anemia, pernicious anemia, low folate) presented in the above abstract. So why would it work unless... there's a...

    Aripiprazole - Abilify

I was prescribed Risperdal, an anti-psychotic, for a sub-mania condition which was due to, a shrink told me, probably a reaction to tapering too fast off an SRI anti-depressant. Anyway, I took Risperdal for two to three nights and noticed already the insatiable appetite problem but also, a...

I like how she wrote of how the pain is different in MS and in Fibro.

Aptinyx stock soars on positive Phase 2 results for its fibromyalgia treatment, June 10, 2019

Yeah, I've got my eye on this drug development for fibro. But who knows. Phase II is just a small human sample trying to get the dosage right. The company is seeking money (I think) for the huge cost of a multi-center Phase III trial. Fingers crossed.

Anger rumination mediates differences between fibromyalgia patients and healthy controls..., 2019, Toussaint et al

anger ruminations in fibromyalgia https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/pmh.1445 My personal experience with fibro is that the pain is quite extreme and makes me irritable in many ways. When the pain is sometimes relieved by an opioid, I am my normal self--not "angry." Again, this...

Supplements and activity designed to improve circulation - an experiment.

I ain't no scientist, but I know from experience that the brain runs on glucose. And the brain's in charge of everything, so I need a certain carb level to feel okay (or whatever passes for that these days.) Diabetic diet (carbs limited) is good. Still, hard to not OD on carbs: popcorn, chips...

Performance of the American College of Rheumatology 2016 criteria for fibromyalgia in a referral care setting, 2019, Lawrence et al

Here's some info about the 2016 changes: https://acrabstracts.org/abstract/2016-revisions-to-the-20102011-fibromyalgia-diagnostic-criteria/ And ....https://people.clarkson.edu/~lrussek/2016FMS.pdf This seems to be a/the screening tool for the 2016 criteria, or a version of it.

Is insulin resistance the cause of fibromyalgia? (Prelim report) (2019) Pappolla et al - Retracted Dec. 2019

Parsing it down: Pappollo proposes that insulin resistance causes fibromyalgia. That metformin is highly effective in reducing fibromyalgia pain. He also applied for a provisional patent for a novel treatment program for fibromyalgia and myofascial disorders (could be based on metformin?). I...

Is insulin resistance the cause of fibromyalgia? (Prelim report) (2019) Pappolla et al - Retracted Dec. 2019

My critique of this study: Nowhere does it mention how long each participant has had fibro. The longer one has it, the less likely one is to be physically fit one the more likely one is to be overweight (higher BMI). This is a major risk factor in developing prediabetes (IR, elevated HgA1c)...

Discussing acceptance and commitment therapy in ME/CFS.

I'm reading about it now and it's like CBT crossed with mindfulness. Kind of a rehash. Really can't see how it can be therapeutic for ME/CFS. Ka-ching for the psychs.

Discussing acceptance and commitment therapy in ME/CFS.

Couple of points of reference about the concept of psychological flexibility. However, I fear it's widespread use and waste of research dollars. also https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0272735810000413?via=ihub And here is another tack...

Discussing acceptance and commitment therapy in ME/CFS.

I came across this https://www.apa.org/pubs/journals/releases/amp-a0035623.pdf It's about CBT and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in treating chronic pain, and the history of research both negative and positive. And the result is not convincing, to say the least. This is for chronic...

Discussing acceptance and commitment therapy in ME/CFS.

CBT was originally developed by David Burns to treat self-defeating thoughts in depression. Interesting and probably useful. Then in 2005 or so, CBT was being used in chronic back pain. Since then, it's become a first-line therapy in many difficult conditions. Trouble is that this generalizing...

Multidisciplinary Biopsychosocial Program for Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain at the Dead Sea, 2019, Dramsdahl et al

Interesting about: increased level of oxygen (but by how much, it's not a hyperbariac oxygen chamber--that, is another Israeli research study on pain), and the sun, and mineral (and fungi, by the way) levels in the sea. But, in essence, my take-away is that the research is promoting this...
