Targeting the Monocytic-Endothelial-Platelet Axis with Maraviroc and Pravastatin as a Therapeutic Option to Treat Long COVID/ Patterson/PP

That's probably a bit unfair. The study probably helped them develop their ideas and might give potential funders of a bigger blinded trial confidence. They say: It looks like they understand that this isn't proof that the treatments work.

The IDO Metabolic Trap Hypothesis for the Etiology of ME/CFS 2019 Kashi, Davis, Phair.

As so often seems to be the way with ME/CFS researchers, clinicians and even high profile advocates, it seems that Gilles Guillemin may possibly not be someone we should pin our hopes on. Sydney Herald 28 Dec 2021

    News from Australia

The CEO who drove a lot of the positive change left to take up a new job. The new CEO didn't know about ME/CFS and seems to be happy to take advice about what it is and what should be done about it from 'experienced ME/CFS doctors'. I guess in most other medical conditions, that would be a...

Open Effectiveness of Acceptance Commitment Therapy or Micro Breaks in Patients With Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ Myalgic Encephalomyelitis

I think any identified secondary outcomes should also be reported. But yes, the summary that we have neatly steps around specifying secondary outcomes while implying that there will be objective outcomes. Also, the microbreak intervention is extraordinarily vague. The microbreaks might be...

    News from Australia

How much support do you think we would get? Probably a lot of ME/CFS patients are very happy with the kind of 'integrative' approach he takes. And even for people who are concerned about Schloeffel as Emerge's Medical Director, some of them, possibly even me, might find a petition specifically...

Open Effectiveness of Acceptance Commitment Therapy or Micro Breaks in Patients With Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ Myalgic Encephalomyelitis

Thanks for your efforts on this FMMM1. Just to note though, this trial does seem to have actimetry outputs. Of course that doesn't compensate for the many problems of the trial including its underlying premise, or guarantee that the actimetry results will actually be reported in the resulting...

    News from Australia

Emerge announces the appointment of a Medical Director: In my opinion, largely based on a talk I heard him give to an Emerge conference quite a few years ago, Dr Schloeffel is well-meaning but entirely the wrong sort of person to represent a disease community to the medical profession. The...

UK: NICE Guideline: Rehabilitation for Chronic Neurological Disorders Including Traumatic Brain Injury

FND can mean all sorts of things - it usually involves a circle or several circles of factors connected by arrows. But whatever it is, it seems to be able to be fixed by thinking better, some sleep hygiene and a bit more exercise.

UK: NICE Guideline: Rehabilitation for Chronic Neurological Disorders Including Traumatic Brain Injury

It's one thing to remove the condition of ME/CFS from the scope of a guideline covering functional neurological disorders. It's quite another to ensure that the person with ME/CFS is removed from the scope of a guideline covering functional neurological disorders. I'm concerned that many...

BPS attempts at psychologizing Long Covid

Yes. Another thing that doesn't seem to occur to many is that the reason that this is true: is that many, actually most, people recover from their post-infection syndrome regardless of what they do or don't do. The fact that someone recovers after entrusting themselves to a psychologist or...

The careful assessment tool for managing patients with [MUS] – The experience of Slovenian family medicine trainees.., 2022, Ivetić et al

*I kept reading FMT as Fecal Matter Transplants. (I'm clearly not in an appropriate mood for serious discussion of science. I really will step away this time.)

Functional seizures: The patient’s perspective of a diagnostic and treatment odyssey, 2022, Andrini et al

It feels as though a podcast could be made disentangling story. Or an episode of a medical soap opera. (not to make light of the woman's experience, which undoubtedly has been awful)

The careful assessment tool for managing patients with [MUS] – The experience of Slovenian family medicine trainees.., 2022, Ivetić et al

The trainees reported the tool was great. There's a passing mention that the patients weren't all as pleased. The certainty that the patients loved it is rather undermined by some of the quotes from the trainees: For all the talk of taking the time to listen to the patient, there seems to be...

The careful assessment tool for managing patients with [MUS] – The experience of Slovenian family medicine trainees.., 2022, Ivetić et al

So, medical trainee, what do you think about this Careful Assessment tool? Is it, perhaps, careful? Yes?Ah, you liked it? Super, an A grade for you. So, in this MUS module, have a go at diagnosing these patients. Here's a clue - they all have MUS. You decided that they have MUS? Well done...

The careful assessment tool for managing patients with [MUS] – The experience of Slovenian family medicine trainees.., 2022, Ivetić et al

I seem to be feeling very flippant this morning - I think it's the result of reading too many BPS papers. Here's the first paragraph of the paper: So, they say that MUS are symptoms that cannot be entirely accounted for by a known somatic disease. They then go on to say that primary care...

Functional seizures: The patient’s perspective of a diagnostic and treatment odyssey, 2022, Andrini et al

I mean, what exactly are the authors advocating? It seems to be informing the person more clearly that her physical symptoms are linked to past trauma and stress, so that she becomes willing to engage in therapy. So, are they suggesting that the possibility of a biological cause should never...

Functional seizures: The patient’s perspective of a diagnostic and treatment odyssey, 2022, Andrini et al

This is what is said about the CBT: It's not at all clear if the woman's seizures were being linked to the trauma of herself being bitten by a dog when she was 15, or if instead the issue was her mother being bitten by a dog when the patient was 15. Also, the patient's mother was upset about...
