Anomalies in the review process and interpretation of the evidence in the NICE guideline for (CFS & ME), 2023, White et al

But anyway, back to the topic—unusually, I have got my hopes up on this one. It's unlikely to shut White et al up, but if it's done as well as I hope, it's another line in the sand.

Anomalies in the review process and interpretation of the evidence in the NICE guideline for (CFS & ME), 2023, White et al

Hopefully the thingies will become like the northern lights in Oslo—don't pop up very often, and faint when they do. But they might look greenish-pink on a photo.

    Covid-19 vaccines and vaccinations

Funny you should say that, because I've just come on to report something vaguely connected. Someone on my Facebook feed asked her contacts whether any of them had been jabbed with something that wasn't Moderna. She was quite poorly after the last booster in May, and her GP is using the same...

Atypical manifestation of celiac disease in carriers of HLA mutant gene (CFS mentioned in abstract), 2023, Nekrashchuk

Umm. I think undiagnosed celiac disease can cause chronic fatigue in some people, so this might be a case of confusing the two names in the opposite way to usual. The rest of the manifestations sound a bit ... well, made up to be honest.

    Covid-19 vaccination experiences

Yes, I took it to mean that immunocompromised people might need boosting more frequently. The frequency might be an individual thing, on the advice of a doctor who knows your history. Maybe you or your mum could call the advice line on 119? It certainly sounds as if you'd be eligible for the...

    Covid-19 vaccination experiences

I found the handout online. TL;DR seems to be that immunocompromised people might need more doses. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1182181/PIL_COMIRNATY_BA.4-5_bivalent_12_years+.pdf

    Covid-19 vaccination experiences

I got a four-page handout with my jab this time, so I'll read through it and post anything that looks useful.

2012 Letter to the Independent on harassment of researchers

The list of signatories might be useful in this thread: https://www.s4me.info/threads/bps-organizations-and-structures.35508/#post-496551 I haven't copied it across because I don't follow the BPS stuff; I'm not sure how which of them were/are active as clinicians and which were just brown-nosing.

    Covid-19 vaccination experiences

I had my latest booster early doors today. At least in the Midlands area, they seem to be using same one as the spring booster programme, the combined Comirnaty Original/Omicron BA4.5. I'm not sure whether this is country-wide, but thought it was worth mentioning for anyone who's still waiting...

    Help for sound sensitivity

Welcome, @Megsyjenks. Have you got a solar PV installation on your roof by any chance? I had an annoying buzz coming from the loft when I first moved here, which really bothered me at night. Eventually I accumulated up enough leg function to get myself up there, and found that 85% of the noise...

Noise cancelling headphones! Oh Joy! (and other ways to block sound)

Good to have that review, @Wonko – sounds like they might be a worthwhile investment for me too. I'd looked at them before, as Bose sells factory reconditioned ones for quite reasonable prices, but I wondered how good they were. Sounds like the answer's brilliant!

Perceptible changes in muscle tension (moderate ME)

I wanted to ask about this, as it’s always seemed fundamental to what went wrong when I got ill in 1976. I think it’s an ME phenomenon, but I don’t know if everyone has it. I’ve been in a phase of reduced capacity since early July, but this morning the switch happened. Over about 30 seconds...

    Covid-19 vaccination experiences

I might only have been told because the pharmacist at Tesco was trying to decide which one to give me. The one I had is for over-65s, and I'm not 65 yet but am on the 'potentially at higher risk' list. Anyway, the vaccine's called aQIV according to the bit of paper I was given. If I'd been a...

    Covid-19 vaccination experiences

I prefer to get them separately too. If I did have a bad reaction, at least I'd know which one caused it. I had my 'flu jab last week, the first time I've had the version for older people designed to provoke a stronger immune response. I felt it this time, too. Nothing specific—tiredness...

UK - Energy - suppliers, costs, grants, meters etc

Yes, most of them are set up like this. Some people do find it useful, as it enables them to work out whether there are things draining power when they shouldn't be, and how efficient "always on" appliances such as fridges are. It also means folk can also take part in the power-saving schemes...

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2023 (including government plans to scrap the work capability assessment)

I did too, but mostly because I hadn't really got my head around the full implications. It made me realise I've probably never had a WCA because they already knew from my DLA assessment that I'd qualify for the support group under the mobility aspect. That would go if the proposals are enacted...

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2023 (including government plans to scrap the work capability assessment)

This. Many of those women will not be receiving £10.5k a year each in pension, and paying in tax and NICs. My neighbour's struggling by on slightly above minimum wage, but she's still chipping in over £2.5k a year. There are said to be 3.8 million women affected by the age change, and even...

    Sewing and accessible sewing machines

I just daren't watch, because it'll set me off on ambitious projects I can't finish. I already do more than is ideal, so I know what'll happen: I'll run out of juice, the machine will sit in the middle of the room until I eventually have to move it to clean the floor, and my...
