News about Long Covid including its relationship to ME/CFS 2020 to 2021

Looking at the long-term studies, it does not appear to have been checked much and only lungs, don't see any heart checks. I mostly see EEG and polysomnography, rest is psychometric or illness questionnaires like checking for fibromyalgia...

News about Long Covid including its relationship to ME/CFS 2020 to 2021

I am genuinely fascinated with the obsession to pin everything on organ damage even though if there had ever been such a relation it would already be known for decades, as organ damage is definitely not rare or understudied. Of course it's serious but there is no reason to believe any of it is...

Developing a clinical prediction rule for repeated consultations with functional somatic symptoms in primary care: a cohort study, 2021, Holtman et al

This is as absurd as researching what features of cooking affect the outcome without considering heat at all. This entire field of research needs to be shut down, has absolutely nothing to contribute.

Long Covid page on Physio-pedia. No idea how big physio-pedia is within the profession but pretty decent overview. Appears to have been written by the physios who make up this group: https://twitter.com/LongCOVIDPhysio. https://physio-pedia.com/Long_COVID

The evidence base for physiotherapy in myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome when considering PEM: a systematic review (2020) Wormgoor

I meant different in just about the opposite way the BPS folks have been doing ;) It's basically a good starting point for an inverted blueprint and do the exact opposite of the BPS model at every turn: trust the patients, involve them at every level and do real science (which means measuring...

News about Long Covid including its relationship to ME/CFS 2020 to 2021

How has there still not been a follow-up study on the SARS survivors yet? It's been less than 20 years, most are probably still alive. How much work would that even require? The data would be skewed for those hospitalized but that's what we have to work with. The chances that there were no mild...

News about Long Covid including its relationship to ME/CFS 2020 to 2021

Almost a year in and everyone is still anchored on "rehabilitation" with exercise. No one is learning a damn thing. It should work and it must work and so it will be made to work. So many similar programs have been attempted already with no success, that information is clearly not being shared...

Preoperative cognitive-behavioural intervention improves in-hospital mobilisation and analgesic use for lumbar spinal fusion patients, 2020

Preoperative cognitive-behavioural intervention improves in-hospital mobilisation and analgesic use for lumbar spinal fusion patients https://bmcmusculoskeletdisord.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12891-016-1078-8 Shows no improvement and yet they still conclude it did improve things by...

Hopefully he will revise his old books because Delaney has authored a book with this: Psychological interventions for non‐ulcer dyspepsia, by: Shelly Soo, Paul Moayyedi, Jonathan J Deeks, Brendan Delaney CBT has not, in fact, been found to be effective for anything related to CFS or any...

    Open Medicine Foundation (OMF)

I have been reconsidering my monthly donation for this reason, it's not really worth it, frankly. I know it's a hard problem but no deliverables, even some mid-way progress, makes it a poor investment. It's the best we have, sure, but that really says it all. Frankly SolveME delivers more with...

The evidence base for physiotherapy in myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome when considering PEM: a systematic review (2020) Wormgoor

Judging by several comments I noticed from MS patients on the DailyMail article about GET for LC fatigue, I don't think studying fatigue in any generic way makes any sense. They seem to share the very same frustration of poor evidence fabricated using the same junk process of EBM. The...

Oh, that's easy: it's the one that makes $. No better scam than one that is made official.

Lightning Process study in Norway - Given Ethics Approval February 2022

I don't know how reliable the translation is, especially the dialogue portion, but pretty good overall. I assume it will make some people very angry. The cracks in the dam are growing and the rainfall will only increase to a deluge. I don't know what the diehards of the BPS model are thinking...

CADENCE study: to assess whether raised CRP is associated with probable depression in children and young people with CFS/ME, Loades, Crawley - ongoing

It's a jobs program. The point is to employ people long-term. Not much point doing any of this quickly. No one is expecting anything useful out of this anyway, nobody outside of the team will actually read the paper, nobody cares what they do all this time as long as they promote the BPS model...

Continuous pain report demonstrates time delay of pain ratings in Fibromyalgia, Kharko et al, 2021

The idea behind CSS is so weird. People experiencing migraines, a bout of the flu and many other types of illness have increased pain sensitivity. This doesn't tell us anything about anything, it's just describing the outcome instead of trying to understand the process. Lazy.

    NICE ME/CFS guideline - draft published for consultation - 10th November 2020

Oddly enough, the DM has been the best UK newspaper in reporting on ME over the years. Some misses but far fewer than the others. Which is... really really bad for the serious news media. BBC and Guardian have been absolutely awful with us, spreading disinformation unchecked.

News about Long Covid including its relationship to ME/CFS 2020 to 2021

Yes to all of this, in roughly the same proportions as ME it seems. The severe end is relatively rare but seems about as disabling. Some have short episodes of this, sometimes relapses because they had good days. Some have been mostly stuck in this place for weeks and months. Growing despair...
