Measuring fatigue. Discussion of alternatives to questionnaires.

Interesting, but even accelerometers are about physical fatigue. My symptoms are primarily cognitive. Though how anyone could measure lack of mental energy, inability to process information, indecision, poor concentration, etc, I have no idea.

Persistent fatigue induced by interferon-alpha: A novel, inflammation-based, proxy model of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, 2018, Pariante et al

I seem to recall he was asked about this in 2017 and without disowning his review said that he didn't think ME was caused by excessive rest.

Persistent fatigue induced by interferon-alpha: A novel, inflammation-based, proxy model of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, 2018, Pariante et al

Good point. But that doesn't fit the narrative of how Wessely rescued the illness and was the only one who took it seriously. It is 30 wasted years.

United Kingdom: Science Media Centre (including Fiona Fox)

This is fantastic. She is utterly shameless. By the way everyone, did you know I have an OBE as well? It is so ignorant as well. She shows a fundamental misunderstanding of what knowledge is.

A general thread on the PACE trial!

I'm not saying they refused to follow the treatment plan. I'm suggesting that they did try but were unable to. The therapists were hyper-vigilant to ensure the patients didn't harm themselves so didn't push them to follow the original plan. Instead the therapists modified the plan to fit the...

Persistent fatigue induced by interferon-alpha: A novel, inflammation-based, proxy model of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, 2018, Pariante et al

I think it's too much of a judgment call for the Commission. I think it's the political route we need to go down for the SMC.

Persistent fatigue induced by interferon-alpha: A novel, inflammation-based, proxy model of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, 2018, Pariante et al

It is a good summary. I'm waiting for the paper in 18 months' time from Chalder, Pariante, Russell et al showing how they helped this fatigue using CBT/GET (moderate, subjective, temporary improvement, of course). In the ensuing media coverage orchestrated by the SMC, Sharpe will say all along...

A general thread on the PACE trial!

But that raises another question. As you say, although the GET cohort did slightly more on the 6-minute walk test, they didn't raise their fitness, which suggests they weren't actually more active. So did they actually have GET? The distinguishing (from pacing) feature of GET is that there is a...

Persistent fatigue induced by interferon-alpha: A novel, inflammation-based, proxy model of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, 2018, Pariante et al

Yes, and in the interview, he responded to my mention of the multi-systemic nature of ME by claiming the immune system can cause multi-systemic changes, including the brain and the liver.

Persistent fatigue induced by interferon-alpha: A novel, inflammation-based, proxy model of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, 2018, Pariante et al

And look what Pariante says on his Twitter profile: 'I want to know why stress makes us ill, and how to get better.' He's doing this research because he wants to show stress damages the immune system and causes a physical illness, namely 'CFS'. And KCL are backing him because they will then...
