No worries. I didn't even occur to me. I want to make some witty remark about standing on a paper circle (being put on the spot) but I'm afraid that's beyond me.
I guess so. But I'm not certain. I've been much less ill than I am now (my way of avoiding the 'mild' word) and I think that in the short term it's possible to push harder than it would be if the test was longer.
So . . .
I don't really feel in any way qualified to make a comment on that. I...
I think that is a very good question that needs to be addressed for this study and any others that crop up. My opinion is that it's also a hard one to answer. Perhaps a more formal dialogue with anyone contemplating research needs to be established so that both the researchers and community...
I'm still waiting for the apology that should come to the community. MEAction sent them a letter outlining why it's not OK to behave the way they did at that last call. So far (I assume) no response.
Hi @borko2100
I'm no expert on exercise testing for ME but I think what is being measured is a comparison between first day and second day abilities to function by the individual not a comparison between different individuals.
Here's a link to a group that does this testing...
IMO more comments is not necessarily better. They're becoming less a cogent argument and more an opportunity to vent. People reading all of them will be more confused.
Well, I could say that I wish my wishes could be different. I have become so jaded with regard to any sort of belief in either competence or in the case of some subset of research a will to suspend a prior bias.
I try not to dwell on it.
Let's hope that the whole of medical scientific...
I would very much like to know what goes on in the minds of the BPS people vis a vis how they view what is science in this context. If talk therapy works because it changes the brain then should they not be obliged to show that? And even if they could show brain changes exactly how is it they...
I am sorry to those patients who participated expecting something useful. I wasn't there but the idea they sang a song at you is creeping me out significantly. Shame on them. I think it merits a strongly worded public letter as to what people thought of it.
The thing is, there has already been very adequate well reasoned and thorough responses elsewhere. I can imagine that part of the BPS strategy was to wear us down (a thoroughly evil strategy too). How many more times must we repeat our stance. This is also a line that is co-opted by the BPS...
I'm glad to hear that. I think as a group of sick people we have been on a steep learning curve with regard to how best to respond. In the past so many comments that at first appeared to make some good point were actually poorly worded and easy to pick apart as a result of deliberate...
They don't protect the yet to be born nor the newly born nor the immune compromised. I see it as a social responsibility. I also have read about many young adults who are upset that their parents chose not to have them vaccinated.
I do take on point though @alktippings comment that anyone who...
So the comments will be paywalled (according to a previous post). That's unfortunate. I'm hoping that there will only be a few replies. It's tricky playing into this lure to respond. The Wessely school has made the ambiguous use of language an art form. I have found from social media that...
It seems clear to me they are on a fishing expedition to find people who might respond intemperately providing a straw man to argue against for the factually challenged BPS view.
I didn't read the whole thing but scanned. Sadly, the writer has this to say:
It’s too early to say whether any of these hypotheses could hold the key to mental illness. More important, we’d do better not to set so much store by the idea of a single key. It’s more useful to think in terms of...
This is a story about neurology that I thought might be of general interest.
I found this on CBC's Quirks and Quarks:
Before he was born, his parents knew their boy was in trouble. That was clear from what their doctors' saw in their baby's ultrasound. And tragically, the boy died when he was...
