Research charities' policies on funding research that uses animals

There are models that are claimed to be animal models of "chronic fatigue", but they aren't very plausible/similar to real human cases.

Autonomic, Endocrine, and Inflammation Profiles in Functional Neurological Disorder: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis, 2021, Perez et al

Resting heart rate and heart rate variability are very non-specific markers and are usually just an indication of lower fitness and activity levels.

Sex-Specific Characteristics of the Microcirculation, Huxley and Kemp, 2018

Note that muscular or brain microvascular regulation is locally controlled (to maintain blood flow), rather than central (which regulates a balance between flow and blood pressure), so things like sympathetic tone (alpha-adrenergic vasoconstriction) isn't as relevant, or only relevant as a...

    MedRx preprint… Breakthrough SARS-CoV-2 infections in 620,000 U.S. Veterans, February 1, 2021 to August 13, 2021

No, it flattens out as antibody levels reach their equilibrium levels. As for J&J, well, it's a mediocre vaccine...

New Zealand: Covid-19 vaccinations for people with ME/CFS

No one in Australia is getting any long term exemptions at all, which is concerning as in Victoria, the vaccine is basically mandatory - you can't get a hair cut without one, nor work. In the case of anaphylaxis, you have to have an attack from both AZ and Pfizer before you are exempt (catch-22)...

    Covid-19 vaccination experiences

It can be stored in a normal freezer for several weeks. The very low temperatures was for protection against damage during long-distance travel.

“Convergent validity of the central sensitization inventory and experimental testing of pain sensitivity”, 2021, Holm et al

So it converges with questionnaire-answering-behaviour, but lacks construct validity. Is anyone surprised?

Open Cardiovascular Analysis of PEM, 2021, Natelson

Note the prior case study: https://content.iospress.com/articles/work/wor203214 10-15 minutes of exercise isn't going to cause much difference in blood volume, that claim is just speculation by Cort. The claim about "deep, rapid breathing occurring in people with ME/CFS during exercise" is...

Central sensitisation in chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia; a case control study, 2021, Bourke, White et al

That is not a reasonable assumption - most documented 'central sensitivity' phenomena are normal spinal responses to abnormal peripheral stimulation and occur even in healthy people. The irony is that most animal models require constant peripheral stimulation to induce the 'central sensitivity'.

The biology of coronavirus COVID-19 - including research and treatments

This is great news, though I can't seem to find published results yet. If the results aren't nearly as good as monoclonal antibodies then I'll be slightly less excited. Prior data was reported here, but an effect on clinical outcomes wasn't measured...

Central sensitisation in chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia; a case control study, 2021, Bourke, White et al

I always wonder if there are participation biases involved in tests like this - given the thresholds are still subjectively reported, participants with the illness may believe they are supposed to be ultra-sensitive to such pain and thus report it sooner, even though it may be experienced...

Evidence-based psychological interventions for adults with chronic pain: precision, control, quality, and equipoise, 2021, Williams, Eccleston et al.

Simplified: The first one or two people did most of the work, the people in the middle chipped in and the one or few people at the end secured the research funding or provided a supervisory role.

Exactly. We don't regularly repeat the derogatory names people use for other disadvantaged groups, so why ME?

Placebo effect: a psychosomatic component, or only an aggregate of other biases?

There is no "healing" effect associated with placebo. There is however a conditioned effect that allows temporary reduction in nausea or pain (mediated by endogenous opioids) which is an evolutionarily derived system that allows animals to escape danger despite experiencing pain or nausea...
