Improving myalgic encephalomyelitis population sampling.... - Kielland et al, 2025

I don’t have the capacity to dig into the results, but I want to highlight the substantial communication with patients that the researches did as a part of running this study:

The SARS-CoV-2 spike glycoprotein interacts with MAO-B and impairs mitochondrial energetics, 2023, Pileggi et al.

Most research is quite disjointed and some just work on their pet theories regardless of the merit of the theories. And most of academia is completely broken, it’s all about citations, publications, grants, power and status. I have no way of knowing if this is a part of that or not.

Cognitive Impairments in Two Samples of Individuals with ME/CFS and Long COVID: A Comparative Analysis, 2025, Sirotiak et al.

@EndME good points. I kind of jumped to a conclusion because brainfog is very common post-covid.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there two events are related.

Cognitive Impairments in Two Samples of Individuals with ME/CFS and Long COVID: A Comparative Analysis, 2025, Sirotiak et al.

This is still interesting, as it seems like the combo of ME/CFS + LC gives more cognitive symptoms.

Do you believe that “viral persistence” is the cause of ongoing MECFS and LC?

So slightly higher antibody levels for X might not indicate an infection with X or reactivation of X, but an infection with Y?

Is it useful to compare CBT in SLE and ME/CFS?

From the nurse study: Data from table 4 for Model E2: For Model E2 that accounts for PTSD, all CIs go below 1.00, and the p-value is non-significant. They write this about PTSD in the discussion: I have no idea what the HR for Model E2 means for the results, but it caught my attention when...

Is it useful to compare CBT in SLE and ME/CFS?

Does that mean that you would have had lupus according to their inclusion criteria? If so, so of them might in theory have had ME/CFS instead?

Do you believe that “viral persistence” is the cause of ongoing MECFS and LC?

This was a while ago, but what do you mean by reactivation of immune responses? That the immune system has become more sensitive or that it overreacts to normal things? I believe I remember reading something about how the innate immune system halts the energy production in cells for the first...

SequenceME genetic study - from Oxford Nanopore Technologies, the University of Edinburgh and Action for ME

Says this: With the largest machine, you can run ~5,000 sequences a year. I assume the prep can be done while you run another batch, so it doesn’t add time to the processing duration. I have no idea which machines they use and how many. Source

The SARS-CoV-2 spike glycoprotein interacts with MAO-B and impairs mitochondrial energetics, 2023, Pileggi et al.

This seems to be pretty niche and technical, so most people are probably not able to discuss it, including myself. The authors of the paper you posted have substantial financial interests in MAO-B, so they will probably push for studies and trials if it’s worthwhile.

Is it useful to compare CBT in SLE and ME/CFS?

I still think it’s beneficial to be able to explain to regular people that the gift is in fact a turd, and why that is.

Is it useful to compare CBT in SLE and ME/CFS?

Why is the BPS model true? - Because Engel wrote it down. How did he know it was true? Did he prove it? - No, he just knew somehow. It’s funnier when you know that ‘engel’ means ‘angel’ in Norwegian.
