News about Long Covid including its relationship to ME/CFS 2020 to 2021

Headbangingly frustrating. All this time, effort and energy, the main burden being on the very ill and their carers, to try to stop what is essentially a sham treatment that hurts more people than it helps. Except where therapists fly under the radar and do what's needed to help the individual...

    Lightning Process - discussion thread

Definitely worth finding out. If I recall correctly there's a certain emminent psychiatrist who wrote a report on ME on stationary with the WHO logo. I'm a bit vague on the precise details but I believe the institution he worked for was authorized to use the paper but he wasn't. It leant false...

News about Long Covid including its relationship to ME/CFS 2020 to 2021

Oh. I never thought of that as an upside - current ME/CFS services too busy to push harm on ME patients. Just as long as people don't start.demanding more services. The last thing we need is more of the same.

News about Long Covid including its relationship to ME/CFS 2020 to 2021

I find it amusing/ironic that this person, who has presumably been ill for a very short time with covid, is telling someone who has published papers on ME related issues and is one of the main people behind the Irish ME Association what ME is. (Apologies Tom, dunno if you're the chairperson...

    Sleeping in hot weather

No, these don't go in the freezer. They have a gel that's activated by the pressure of the dog's weight. They're not freezing cold, more cooling. If you shift your weight slightly now and then it reactivates the gel. I've not tried the freezer ones but I imagine they get a bit damp as they...

NICE Statement about graded exercise therapy in the context of COVID-19

Sure, @Sly Saint, but that's the politicians. It's also a slightly different argument because it states politicians are aware of the harms but they don't run the health service. So far NICE and the NHS have been avoiding coming out and saying they are aware that some may be harmed by exercise...

    Sleeping in hot weather

I don't know if this makes it any easier @Dx Revision Watch - I've popped the links in to the text. Each link take should take you to the relevant page on the amazon website. Here is the link to an example of the cooling dog bed and Here is the link for an example of the cooling scarf

Sensations of fizzing or buzzing, or paraesthesia in limbs

Yep. Unlike most other careers BPSers get (very well) paid even when they make matters worse not better.

NICE Statement about graded exercise therapy in the context of COVID-19

See, I'm wondering..... If the YourCovidRecovery site has a caveat in there about you undertaking the exercise therapy at your own risk and the NICE guidelines don't have a similar caveat for ME, does that strengthen the possibility that one day someone could sue for damages caused by exercise...

    Sleeping in hot weather

So I've had a go on the cooling mat. Not easy- IRD pretty much ignores it, maybe puts his feet on it sometimes, until I want a go and the the little s*d dives on it! It's not quite big enough for both of us unless we snuggle (assuming he'll budge up to begin with). Snuggles are lovely but...

As mindfulness app Headspace booms, its popularity outpaces its scientific evidence

While I don't have an issue with Headspace - I've used the app - or meditation, or companies getting discounted membership for their staff, the idea of meditation being good for all is not necessarily true or proven. Good for many, maybe. I spent some time learning to meditate with people who...

ME/CFS services in the United Kingdom

Speciality doctor - when you read further the role is for an assistant psychologist. If you're an Assistant Psychologist why not refer to the role as such? Is it because doctor sounds more sciency?

United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust is looking to employ a Spiritual Healer / Reiki Therapist Aug 2020

As @Trish says, depending on how the thing is presented it could be beneficial. I have net a fair few cancer patients who really enjoyed Reiki sessions and felt they benefitted. One of the things with something like Reiki or meditation is that, for that period of time, you have permission to...

Sensations of fizzing or buzzing, or paraesthesia in limbs

Is ut usually painless? Not necessarily. The buzzing, tingling, occasional numb patches - fine not painful, just annoying. However, the burning, stinging business hurts. I've schooled myself not to react otherwise you can find yourself suddenly grabbing, inspecting and rubbing the affected...

Protocol ReCOVer: A RCT testing the efficacy of CBT for preventing chronic post-infectious fatigue among patients diagnosed with COVID-19.

Apart from the usual "chronic fatigue" - what exactly is chronic fatigue here? Fatigue, fatigueability, a bit knackered but can still lead a mostly normal life? Etc, etc... Participants will have had "acute covid" and suffering ongoing symptoms. So this will most likely pick up people who...

    Coronavirus - myths

Okay.... I don't know a massive amount about kidneys but won't the pH of urine vary depending on what you ingest? The mind boggles - does the material the mask is made of matter? What about a flower pattern vs an abstract pattern vs a plain one? Sorry, it's hard not to take the p***.....

    Coronavirus - myths

??? You do know masks are supposed to be made of material that you can actually breathe through, right? You are wearing them (one mask at a time and not layers of 'em) on your face, aren't you? Do you have to have special kidney tests to see if you're kidneys are "strong" enough to become...

United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust is looking to employ a Spiritual Healer / Reiki Therapist Aug 2020

Ah now, at least they let you lie down to have reiki. You don't have to speak, if they play annoying "soothing" music you can put in some earplugs. I'd say it's probably less likely to do you any harm than directive CBT. There's even a Reiki distance healing that could compete with internet...
