That's very sad. It's worth clicking through on the link in Wyva's post to read a bit more about how close the advocates got to getting a new clinical guideline, and then the dashing of that hope. I wonder if there is anything any of the European organisations can do to help? Although probably...
Just wanted to park this diagram here, as it shows how a pathogen or pathogenic material (the LPS at the top left) can impact TLR4 (mentioned in this paper), and how that could then go on to activate the itaconate shunt, down regulating glycolysis.

Interesting to read in the context of this study which seemed to find evidence of microglia pruning off the synapses of neurons in mice after being activated by the Covid spike protein:
SARS-CoV-2 spike protein induces TLR4-mediated long-term cognitive dysfunction recapitulating post-COVID...
That's really sad. That must have been terribly isolating and difficult for you.
You are right. I find it frightening to hear how deep and wide the belief in ME/CFS as a functional disorder, and functional disorders in general runs within the medical system in Australasia, particularly as...
Thanks again for continuing to respond on this.
Blood tests are not a sure way to diagnose epilepsy:
Blood biomarkers in epilepsy, 2022
So, blood tests are a long way from being a foolproof method to diagnose epilepsy. As I wrote in a post above, other methods of diagnosing epilepsy are also...
The absence of lactate would be not that surprising if the 'burning' of glucose is dialled back, either intentionally by the body in response to an infection to starve the pathogen, or due to some problem. I think it would fit with the itaconate shunt hypothesis.

She's been a stalwart of the BPS group, and involved with some of the nastier research attempting to blame people's physical symptoms on their faulty personalities (or the faulty personalities of their parents).
In my opinion, any clinic or research project that she is involved with should be...
I think @Jonathan Edwards is right to raise concerns about the test.
Given the (irresponsible, I think) use of fluoroquinolones in food production systems, it's possible that some people have detectable levels of these antibiotics in their system. As far as I could find out, the antibiotics do...
Observation is a legitimate part of the scientific process. So someone could think to themselves, I seem to feel better when I eat celery, for example. They might chat with 27 of their friends, and some of them might say 'yeah, I too seem to feel better when I eat celery'. So far so good...
Bumping this thread, with two fairly recent papers reporting higher levels of CGRP in people with fibromyalgia, and the treatment inhibiting CGRP receptors. Interesting to read that account of a person whose migraine involved post-exertional symptoms up thread.
We have a thread about migraine treatments, in 2017 there was a new one that is a CGRP receptor inhibitor, erenumab.
Migraine treatments
It would be really interesting to know if anyone with fibromyalgia or ME/CFS has tried that migraine treatment.
Unfortunately I can only see 'section snippets' after that. It sounds as though the 53 women with fibromyalgia had slightly warmer hands than the controls. What I really want to know about are the levels of VEGF and CGRP.
If anyone can see the whole paper, maybe you could let us know?
Granada, Spain
So VEGF, which we know is related to blood vessel growth, vasodilation and vascular permeability (more background on the VEGF thread):
It mentions some more studies of VEGF in fibromyalgia, with contradictory results (doesn't mention the recent 2022 one which found no...
You make good points @RedFox. For me, I had decades of mostly being respected, in my work and elsewhere. Also, when I got sick, my two children, who were both happy with their lives, became sick too. None of us had a history of mental illness. So it made it much easier to be sure that we...
Yes, VEGF certainly is a molecule that is involved with a number of the things that come up often in ME/CFS research and theories. It would be good to have a close look at the papers reporting low levels in ME/CFS (mentioned in post #5) to see how reliable they look.
It's a bit hard to make a...
From a member, thank you for this:
According to a German laboratory called IMD Berlin, Bartonella are the only (currently) known bacteria to induce VEGF in infected cells.
Deepl translation from their pdf - attached below (page 2):

There must be hundreds of comments below that tiktok video, reporting feeling similarly disrespected and variations on that theme. And the video hasn't been up for a day yet.
I'm feeling a bit ambivalent about the paper and even more so the video. For sure I've experienced some horrible...
