Substrate utilisation of cultured skeletal muscle cells in patients with CFS, Tomas et al, 2020

Hi @strategist hope you don't mind me pointing out @alicec explanation of how amino acids etc. are utilised for energy, there also info re diet supplementation, https://www.s4me.info/threads/amino-acids-and-energy-production.1262/#post-21189 perhaps alicec could link it to this thread. Also...

Substrate utilisation of cultured skeletal muscle cells in patients with CFS, Tomas et al, 2020

I recall that Ron Tompkins (OMF) was planning to do work on muscle cells i.e. with UK researchers - any news of that? Anyone with links to OMF on this forum? @Giada Da Ros

Substrate utilisation of cultured skeletal muscle cells in patients with CFS, Tomas et al, 2020

I suspect you're correct i.e. if you're consuming more of X (certain amino acids for energy production) then supplementing your diet with X may not lead to an improvement in your health/functioning. I wonder if a blood test (PMBCs) could identify people who have this problem and then a genetic...

Substrate utilisation of cultured skeletal muscle cells in patients with CFS, Tomas et al, 2020

Milo "The dysfunction in glucose oxidation [muscle cells] is similar to what has previously been shown in blood cells from CFS patients." This seems to indicate that PBMCs would be a substitute i.e. for muscle cells. However, @Jonathan Edwards suggestion, re MR Spectroscopy, would be much more...

Substrate utilisation of cultured skeletal muscle cells in patients with CFS, Tomas et al, 2020

If it's yet to be explained, and there seems to be evidence of utilising certain amino acids, then is diet unreasonable? Also I think Ron Davis and Chris Armstrong may have considered diet supplementation.

Substrate utilisation of cultured skeletal muscle cells in patients with CFS, Tomas et al, 2020

I think Ron Davis has said that there was some evidence that Whitney had been cannibalising his muscle - there's a particular excretion product which is increased in these circumstances. Not sure if Ron has introduced these amino acids as a means of increasing Whitney's nutrition. Chris...

The biology of coronavirus COVID-19 - including research and treatments

I looked briefly online after I posted this. As many of you know this story has been around since the summer i.e. in Spain mink farmers found their animals were sick (coronavirus) and the farmers also developed coronavirus - who caught it from whom isn't clear. So far it seems that nobody is...

The biology of coronavirus COVID-19 - including research and treatments

I haven't checked the link but (as a lay person) this seems like a big deal i.e. coronavirus "jumping" from humans to mink and vice versa.

Dual microglia effects on blood brain barrier permeability induced by systemic inflammation, 2019, Hiroaki Wake et al.

I think "prednisone" is the go to drug for MS etc.; however, it can lead to bone thinning (loss of calcium). I wonder if "CSF leak" is something that could give the symptoms found in ME; however, it is very difficult to detect a CSF leak (correct?). So "CSF leak" may be a great conspiracy...

ZFR suppresses the antiviral response, but not in ME? Is macroH2A1/H2AFY involved?, blog by Follow ME in Denmark.

Hi discussion on this website "Follow ME in Denmark" I'd be interested in your views - http://followmeindenmark.blogspot.com/2020/09/zfr-suppresses-antiviral-response-but.html @Snow Leopard grateful for your views but if you're too busy then don't feel obliged to respond.

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

To be fair the BBC Radio 4 (Evan Davis) had an interview this evening with a doctor in Altnagelvin Hospital (North West Northern Ireland). The doctor explained that they didn't have enough beds to admit the people who needed hospital treatment - sounds overwhelmed ---.

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

Maybe (assuming you and you're mum are in New Zealand) the question needs to be asked (of politicians) -- why are people not being treated? If you look at countries with comparable infection rates then are there health care systems functioning? How are things going in other countries, with...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

I found parts of this BBC Radio 4 program (inside health) positive e.g. doing rapid testing in 12 minutes. With the low rates in New Zealand and the technology improving (rapid testing) then I assume the risk analysis would indicate that you can start treating people for cancer etc. --- I don't...

NICE ME/CFS draft guideline - publication dates and delays 2020

I was thinking of someone I know who labelled a persons illness as their fault - psychological. Partly I think it's some form of indoctrination i.e. to believe that it won't happen to them because of you beliefs/aptitudes whatever --- maybe it's just comforting--- Lets face it, there are a lot...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

I agree; just look at the benefits of doing everything you can to reduce the incidence - e.g. you can access hospitals/health care with lower risk. I'm not sure controlling the virus does damage your economy; if you look at Australia etc. it's hard to imagine that their economy is in a worse...

CBT combined with music therapy for chronic fatigue following Epstein-Barr virus infection in adolescents: a feasibility study, 2020, Wyller et al

Sounds like heads you win (get grant funding) and tails you win --- Pity about the mugs who pay for this (PACE was funded by UK Tax payers) and those who suffer the resulting flawed Government policy (inappropriate treatments).

The Influence of Pro-inflammatory Cytokines and Genetic Variants in the Development of Fibromyalgia: A Traditional Review, 2020, Peck et al

Yea the whole thing (paying for access to peer reviewed journals) is a mess - Much published research is publicly funded e.g. through direct Government funding; gradually there seems to be a move to require this to be made available to the public (free access via the internet). Not all research...

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome the roles of perfectionism and metacognition in co-morbid depression and anxiety, 2020, Wright (D.Clin.Psy.)

Yes Chris Ponting; however, I was thinking of tagging Simon @Simon M The two are linked of course re the GWAS study --- Simon's Gods representative on earth --- or, in this case, Chris's representative on Science 4 ME! Attempt at a joke in case it's not clear! I had decided not to tag Simon...
