U.K. National Institute of Health Research review - Living with COVID-19, Part 1 Oct. 2020, Part 2 March 2021

Moved post There is a LOT to unpack here and this document probably deserves its own thread but there are interesting word choices used here: Alternative reading of those pages: The document: https://evidence.nihr.ac.uk/themedreview/living-with-covid19-second-review/ A bit of a swing and...

Trisha Greenhalgh on ME/CFS and Long Covid

Anyone in a good, diplomatic mood to explain this in a way that can make sense in a few tweets? Or if there's an article summarizing this somewhere... It appears to be the reason here but frankly it's hard to tell as Greenhalgh is deliberately vague, clearly considers people who disagree with...

Outcome Reporting bias in Exercise Oncology trials (OREO): a cross-sectional study, 2021, Singh, Twomey et al

Those problems are clearly fundamental to EBM. They probably have a higher impact on discriminated chronic illnesses because there is nothing else to offer, maximizing their harmful impacts, but the practices appear to be widespread to the point of being normal, it's basically expected to put...

Outcome Reporting bias in Exercise Oncology trials (OREO): a cross-sectional study, 2021, Singh, Twomey et al

Background Despite evidence of selective outcome reporting across multiple disciplines, this has not yet been assessed in trials studying the effects of exercise in people with cancer. Therefore, the purpose of our study was to explore prospectively registered randomised controlled trials (RCTs)...

Paul Garner on Long Covid and ME/CFS - BMJ articles and other media.

Preaching to the choir here but this is pretty typical of the mindset I saw in the LC forums over the last year, people were positive, certain they would recover. There are occasional doomsayers and they were nearly always countered by people saying it isn't helping. Many were afraid but most of...

    News from Canada

Nothing special but a fair report on LC with a mention of the similarities to ME and an overview of the symptoms that is frankly better than average in not diminishing to just fatigue. Says a lot that this is the best one so far. In French. Canada has a national broadcaster but it is divided...

Definitely means either of Wessely, Gerada, Vogt or the like.

News about Long Covid including its relationship to ME/CFS 2020 to 2021

If the thing that already exists is a possibility it could be a disaster... that we will neglect and not care for because it's already standard practice? Ok. The same people saying that very likely already dismiss chronically ill patients experiencing the same as not a real problem, the "if"...

He also said the exact opposite in his first articles about his first few months, dismissing it as just post-viral fatigue and that it will pass, that he would just exercise his way out of it. He literally said and did those things at first. Dude is lying his ass off about a timeline that anyone...

    Covid-19 vaccines and vaccinations

Preliminary study of vaccine impact on Long Covid. Suggests no significant effect either way, sample probably too small.

The executive director editor of The Lancet applauding blatant quackery peddled by a Cochrane co-founder and section director is late-stage institutional brain rot: Notable fact: if you believe in it it will happen to you is quite literally the book The Secret, I suspect that it makes up a...

Many interesting responses to this thread. Many long haulers are hitting year 1 this month.

Uh uh. Sure. Just one mindfulness = brain fog gone. Very credible person. Not prone to histrionics or anything, eats one cake and feels bad after and screams AM I ALLERGIC TO SUGAR?! It's all projection. These people are unable to deal with illness, they seem to genuinely catastrophize, which...

Long COVID and the role of physical activity: a qualitative study, 2021, Humphreys et al

Clearly set out to conclude that physical activity would be good but not really able to cherry-pick it out. Not really useful here, too superficial.

Longitudinal follow-up of a novel classification system for irritable bowel syndrome: natural history and prognostic value, 2021, Black et al

Yes, but what about which Hogwarts team they identify as? Or their Meyers-Brigg profile? Maybe sub-clusters combining MB with astrological sign?! What are their Thetans levels? Favorite breakfast cereal? Entirely consistent with the fact that the "psychological burden" is simply misidentifying...

Important point here: if the trials show no harm yet there is a massive number of reports of harms, including from trial participants, the only viable conclusion is that the trials were completely inadequate. How could it even be otherwise?
