Novel Oro-Nasal Drainage for Long COVID: Proposed Mechanisms – Case Report, 2024, Lorenz et al

Novel Oro-Nasal Drainage for Long COVID: Proposed Mechanisms – Case Report Claudia Lorenz, Roland Frankenberger [Preprint] Abstract Long COVID, potentially emerging post COVID-19 infection, involves extreme health challenges. Based on the current literature in the field, we propose a novel...

Complement dysregulation is a predictive and therapeutically amenable feature of long COVID, 2023, Morgan et al

It says that in the text, but Table 2 shows higher values for controls for both these proteins. Table 2 also doesn't match the scatter plots in Figure 2, at least for C4. The table says mean of 511.8 for controls but the mean line in the plot is below 500. Table S2 in the supplementary file uses...

Pathway-focused genetic evaluation of immune and inflammation related genes with chronic fatigue syndrome, 2015, Rajeevan et al

The Beentjes paper found several other complement proteins upregulated as well, including complement factor B (CFB) and complement component 2 (C2), whose genes were also associated with ME/CFS here. Replicated blood-based biomarkers for Myalgic Encephalomyelitis not explicable by inactivity...

Long COVID is associated with lower percentages of mature, cytotoxic NK cell phenotypes, 2024, Tsao et al.

They found this correlation too, though sex may play a role: Tim Henrich also discussed this finding at the PolyBio symposium.

TANGO2: A Rare but Important Mutation 2024 Walters et al

Oh yeah, there seem to be various presentations of the disease. Maybe some look like ME/CFS, some don't. From Wikipedia: Diagnosis Prognosis

TANGO2: A Rare but Important Mutation 2024 Walters et al

Since ME/CFS is diagnosed based on symptoms, I don't think this makes sense. If they fit the criteria, then by definition they had it. There might be a thousand causes of ME/CFS, and this is just one.

TANGO2: A Rare but Important Mutation 2024 Walters et al

There's an interesting Reddit post of someone with ME/CFS who eventually found out they have this. After some dietary changes, they've been in remission for 14 months. Link

JK Rowling new book — chronic illness references

It feels like a reasonable line of inquiry in an investigation, especially for someone unfamiliar with this condition. Get her to explain exactly why they're talking. Maybe he understands and is just seeing if she might slip up in her explanation that might indicate it's more than what she says...

    PolyBio Fall 2024 Symposium

This part is interesting. I wonder why ME/CFS but not long COVID. Maybe specific to ME/CFS and some in the LC group don't have it? But at least some should have it, and their group level isn't higher at all. Develops over time? I can't find past ME/CFS studies that measured latency of pupil...

JK Rowling new book — chronic illness references

I haven't seen this show other than the clip in the last post I just watched. That doesn't seem that bad? Might even say quite impressive for mainstream TV. That he didn't say "Kea says she got ME." already had me kind of astounded. No she definitely got it, according to this guy. Another...

Pathway-focused genetic evaluation of immune and inflammation related genes with chronic fatigue syndrome, 2015, Rajeevan et al

This study found some variants in a gene that codes for complement factor H (CFH) which were more common in ME/CFS. This molecule was found to be higher in ME/CFS in this study: Replicated blood-based biomarkers for Myalgic Encephalomyelitis not explicable by inactivity, 2024, Beentjes, Ponting...

Environmental pesticide exposure and Alzheimer's disease in southern Spain: A cross-sectional study, 2024, Ruiz-González et al

I'd like to see if the association holds if they split it into further than two areas, stratified by exposure level. Also, it'd be interesting to do this with all diseases there is data for in the same two areas and see if the diseases most and least correlated to pesticide exposure are...

Environmental pesticide exposure and Alzheimer's disease in southern Spain: A cross-sectional study, 2024, Ruiz-González et al

They divided Andalusia into two areas based on pesticide use. Case/control criteria No differences in ages. After adjusting for age and sex, they found an odds ratio of 1.64 (1.41-1.89) for having Alzheimer's in the high pesticide areas. Trend of prevalence over time in the two areas...
