Yes, there should be two initiatives, not just the one. There are people who are extremely vulnerable to the virus who need to be identified and so on. That seems to be working well.
But then there are a second group who are very vulnerable to the effects of the lock down, which is where severe...
The science is a bit beyond me today but I do know about Rosiglitazone. It is the drug Avandia which was banned because of the high rate of deaths from its use.
The drug Pioglitazone, known as Actos, is still in use. They are called TZD drugs and they lower blood sugar by using bone stem cells...
These people may be getting PEM but PEM in ME is not just about exacerbation of symptoms, it is an unexpected exacerbation where mental effort causes physical symptoms and vice versa and there is an immune component whereby people get flu like symptoms with sore throats, swollen lymph glands an...
Noises set off seizures for me as do certain patterns of light and shade. Strange music can do it, had a bad attack due to Classic FM playing and experimental modern piece and rap music rhythms set me off too. :)
I also have sudden movements in response to a loud noise which is an accepted part...
While I agree testing would be useful I do not see anything wrong with people being told to self isolate if they have symptoms even if it has not been confirmed that they have the virus. The test takes 24 - 48 hours to give a result so you have to be quarantined for that amount of time anyway...
The people getting letters are ones considered "extremely vulnerable". Long term disabled are classed as just vulnerable and that is where we fit in. Our vulnerability is more likely to be a long term exacerbation of our ME rather than an increased risk of death from covid-19.
No one else will...
BPS theorists do not seem to understand that we do not have teleports. They never consider how much effort it takes to get to a clinic or to work when they say how much exercise people with ME should take.
Never considered transport before no need to start now:(
My grandson (with autism and type 1 diabetes) has his PIP run out at the end of September. On Saturday the 14th March he received a renewal form which must be received by them by 5th April or his money will be stopped. So it too 9 days to reach him and we will have to allow a week for it to get...
There are aspects of diseases which vary according to different factors but we live in a time where attitudes about gender, race and so on are being examined and dissected, which is a good thing and eventually we may end up with a better set of sensibilities which get rid of the inequalities of...
With this being a new virus everyone is likely to get it sooner or later. Many of the precautions being put in place are to prevent everyone getting it at once. If there are 400 ventilators in a region they can treat 400 patients but if 1200 come at once they can't cope.
If drastic precautions...
I know exactly what you mean. Twice now my husband has had flu (before we started getting flu vaccine) and I do not know if I had it as well. It seems really stupid, but when he is not able to help me I can't get dressed and am exhausted by the things I really have to do like getting my pills...
My hands were becoming very dry with the washing. I was also having difficulty using the liquid soap so I got some Imperial Leather. It is much easier for my hard to move hands but they are also now nicely moisturised. Happy about that :)
I think clusters are when all the patients have been in contact with a known source ie, a man who had been to Italy, 2 people from the plane, the taxi driver, his parents, their neighbour.
Once the virus is in the community there will be people who have a mild case who pass it on to other...
90 percent of people have antibodies to EBV as they get older so it is very common and like all herpes viruses the actual virus remains in the body but it locked away. Think of the way that chicken pox can cause shingles 60 years after the initial infection. herpes virus reactivation could be...
Competitive cyclists took cocaine to stop fatigue and help them keep going. They often died because they used all their resources.
These ideas of fatigue keep using athletes who are fit way beyond the normal. Hunter gathers do not have to be fit enough to run marathons. If anything, in the...
Like others, I am grateful to Jonathan Edwards for the advice on buying some stuff in advance. I have a shopping bag full of tins I can eat cold if my carers are affected.
One thing I have not seen mentioned that may be important for us is to have a bag packed in case we have to go to hospital...
The skin is a barrier to the virus which is why you can't be infected by having particles on your hand. The mucous membranes, the mouth, the nose and the eye are much easier to pass through so that is the usual entry point.
If the virus is swallowed the stomach acid will kill it, at least that...
The hypothalamus was said to be dysfunctional in ME in the old days. It is part of the brain that controls the autonomic nervous system and helps keep the body in homeostasis.
Temperature is often difficult to control in ME and I have felt that hypothalamus problems explain a lot of my symptoms...
