I'm not convinced this is a great success given COVID case numbers are high and increasing in countries that have mostly relied on the BBIBP-CorV vaccine (Such as Mongolia and Bahrain), despite almost 60% of the population being vaccinated.
Anyone spot the error? ICF BMI : 224.2 (kg/m2)
Not sure the participants are even human with that number!
For what purpose though? It will still be unsuitable as a diagnostic marker due to the burden placed on patients.
I'm trying to put this politely, but a the reason why a few patients...
While the analysis was retrospective, I don't think this had anything to do with the actual diagnoses, which was prospective (as referred to the clinic). They certainly didn't change the diagnosis on the basis of the CPET, which would be circular!
Yeah, nah!
India could make more than enough doses, not only for themselves but for other countries - if not for the fact that the corporations who own the intellectual property have decided to maximise profit and only grant exclusive licenses (Serum Institute of India) nor not grant licenses at all...
The female data shows a similar pattern, however there was some overlap between patients and controls - several ICF patients had a small (smaller than CFS patients) drop in peak workrate and workrate at the ventilatory threshold.
Keep in mind the authors made many statistical comparisons and did not attempt to correct for multiple comparisons (despite having a reasonable n=160 sample size) some of the metabolite levels were associated with nicotine use, but this was not reported in the abstract at all.
None of the...
Figure 4 (not shown by Sly saint in above post at time of posting) is very curious - 100% of the idiopathic cases either reproduced or increased their workload at the ventilatory threshold, whereas most patients had a decline. However absolute difference was not large, so this is not going to be...
One point that might not have been made yet (I haven't been able to keep up with the discussion in this thread) is that this process isn't just about our patient group.
It is a pilot programme and if successful, should in principle be used to revise or guide the development new meta analyses...
This study is a little strange in that there was no standardised challenge that may induce PEM. So the PEM reported was due to naturalistic variation in the participants day to day lives. But PEM isn't merely a binary experience, greater exertion tends to lead to worse PEM...
That seems like a...
There still seems to be too much focus on the psychological aspects (phase 4 "integration" is particularly problematic), and too little focus on the fact that the person may be suffering because many human needs are no longer able to be met due to illness. Some of these needs may be able to be...
I don't understand what you mean by this?
Even if the remaining position is filled with people who have been too ill to work (or hold prominent volunteer positions in various organisations!) since their childhood (such as myself), this is still not much representation.
One additional question...
@Hilda Bastian
Why is there no one in the group who doesn't have an impressive CV in lieu of the fact that they have been too ill to work for most of their life?
By only including those who have not experienced the illness for themselves, or were only mildly affected and thus were still able to...
This is a classic and ubiquitous non-sequitur found in medical science. Self-reported symptoms is not the same as experienced symptoms but is almost always assumed to be the same thing.
This is misleading. The first is that not all vaccinations are injected - (eg nasal flu or oral polio, typhoid, rotavirus, cholera, adenovirus etc).
The second is that I'd bundle 'other injection' under other medication/drug causes.
