Dietary Recommendations for Post-COVID-19 Syndrome, 2022, Barrea et al.

Yes, they talk about "post-Covid-19 syndrome" as though it is one thing and are defining it as And yet they talk about it in this way, mixing up all sorts of post-Covid health issues together. (By the way, I think the reference quoted for that hospitalised patients percentage actually said...

Dietary Recommendations for Post-COVID-19 Syndrome, 2022, Barrea et al.

I lost count of the claims made in that abstract that have no solid basis. The misinformation that swirls around CFS has been applied to Long Covid. Of course eat a good balanced diet. I very much doubt that more can be said at this point. It could be worth checking out the references...

    UK NICE 2021 ME/CFS Guideline, published 29th October - post-publication discussion

I think @Michiel Tack's excellent blog is 'a concise summary of the NICE Guideline saga'. I have used it in advocacy. https://mecfsskeptic.com/a-historic-change-for-the-me-cfs-community/ Perhaps you are after more detail though?

Longitudinal analysis reveals high prevalence of Epstein-Barr virus associated with multiple sclerosis, Bjornevik et al (2022)

Now that the threads are merged, Robert 1973's posts about his conversation with the researcher are earlier in this thread. starting with this one (click on the arrow to go to it). The researchers haven't looked at the incidence of ME/CFS, but they potentially could.

Long‐lasting clinical symptoms 6 months after COVID-19 infection in the French national cohort of patients on dialysis, 2022, Belkacemi et al

So many issues with these Long Covid prevalence papers - I'm going to make a checklist, feel free to copy and paste for later papers, and add things I have forgotten: Size - 1217 patients, not bad except, Selection - :emoji_warning: Selection bias likely. Surveys were completed for only 1217...

    UK NICE 2021 ME/CFS Guideline, published 29th October - post-publication discussion

We've created a new thread for Brian Hughes webinar in Resources for Health Professionals so that it can be more easily found for advocacy. A number of posts about it have been moved to the new thread. 2022 Brian Hughes on the NICE Guideline and what it means for care of people with ME/CFS

    Best chopping tool/food prep gadget?

I've taken to using baking paper with most oven cooking, it works pretty much as well as foil and is cheaper. I rather like soggy microwaved potatoes and sweet potatoes - topped with whatever is around. Maybe the variety makes a difference? I agree food processors are mostly too much effort...

Autoimmunity is a hallmark of post-COVID syndrome, 2022, Rojas et al

Given, as you say elsewhere, that it's basic immunology, it is really hard to understand how the 8 authors of the paper could have declared 'Autoimmunity is a hallmark of post-Covid syndrome'. Particularly when most of them work either in a Centre for Autoimmune Diseases Research or a Department...

The possibility of autoimmunity or auto-reactivity in ME/CFS

I'm coming from a thread that is even more enthusiastic about the possibility that Long Covid is an autoimmune disease, (i.e. characterised by the presence of autoantibodies), than Dr Scheibenbogen is in the 2021 report above: Autoimmunity is a hallmark of post-COVID syndrome, 2022, Rojas et al...

Autoimmunity is a hallmark of post-COVID syndrome, 2022, Rojas et al

I'm taking the thread off the topic of this study, I'll head-on over to the discussion thread The possibility of autoimmunity or auto-reactivity in ME/CFS

Autoimmunity is a hallmark of post-COVID syndrome, 2022, Rojas et al

Just trying to understand the prevalence of autoantibodies in health people - possibly I've done this before, or read something about this already, but forgotten about it. There's this 2016 paper, Silosi et al, The role of autoantibodies in health and disease They seem to be saying, yes...

Autoimmunity is a hallmark of post-COVID syndrome, 2022, Rojas et al

The figure below will be hard to see, but the detail probably isn't important. The three black dots across the top are 10% markers. IgM are in blue, IgG are in orange. There's a list of autoantibodies, and the percentage of Long Covid patients testing positive to them is shown by the...

I'm curious about lab testing for viruses (not COVID) Is this common where you live? If so, when did it happen?

United Kingdom: Isle of Man ME/CFS and Long Covid services (Manx, ME Support IOM)

It's possible to answer the survey without living on the Isle on Man - there is nothing saying you can't. There is a question at the end that asks which part of the island you live on - you can leave that blank and still submit a response. If you do that, then, if they want, the organisers can...

    News from Australia

Yes, it seems so. This doctor did say that she would ask her supervisor about Long Covid. And, sorry, this is me just venting off-topic, but she looked in my infected ear with an otoscope, that is, she looked in the ear that is clearly leaking pus (with an instrument that goes in the ear...

    News from Australia

Not really news, more an anecdote. After having an ear infection for over 2 months, I finally got up courage to go get some antibiotics. I saw a GP intern, she was doing a 6 month placement in the clinic, not her first. She didn't know what ME/CFS was (I had had to fill out a new patient...

Funding: Crohn’s & Colitis UK: research into Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis or other Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), closes 29 May 2022

Yes. But gastrointestinal complaints such as those labelled IBS are quite commonly reported in ME/CFS and Long Covid. Maybe there is some misdiagnosis - how many people diagnosed with ME/CFS but reporting ongoing gastro issues have actually been screened for IBD or Crohns? I don't know, it...
