In any research done on Long Covid will they not need a comparison group of ME patients in addition to a control group?

News about Long Covid including its relationship to ME/CFS 2020 to 2021

It will be interesting to see whether the BBC uses any of its journalists who have in the past reported unfavourably on ME, to report in very different terms on Long Covid.

UK - NHS England online tool and clinics for long Covid.

Surely it could not have been so. It is a fact, well established and generally known, that it is patients who are abusive - and, even then, only some of them.

    Aripiprazole - Abilify

I have sometimes wondered about the large increase in reported cases of ME in the late 1980s and whether there was any relationship to the fact that, at least in the UK, I don't know about elsewhere, GPs seemed to have got large numbers of female patients dependent on Valium and Librium...

UK - NICE guideline on Long Covid

I think we have to be very careful. I am well aware of what they are going through but you cannot allow certain narratives to take hold. It is much easier to take on the hydra before it has sprouted a hundred heads. It is clear that a smallish group wishes to frame a particular narrative. There...

UK - NICE guideline on Long Covid

I think that before becoming too deeply involved Shepherd needs to establish his position vis-a vis those vociferous advocates who seek to stigmatise ME and differentiate themselves from ME patients on highly questionable grounds. If he is not careful he may find himself with strange allies. A...

Twitter account will provide headlines & quotes from the 1955 Royal Free Hospital outbreak to the day when each headline appeared - 65 years later

I probably bore you with my suspicious mind. I apologise. Ido however wonder in whose name the application for access to the records was made. I suspect it was McEvedy and that it was to him that permission for use of the data was given. Was Beard's role ever anticipated. It seems doubly odd...

Twitter account will provide headlines & quotes from the 1955 Royal Free Hospital outbreak to the day when each headline appeared - 65 years later

It is useful to be presented with this again. Permission was given to McEvedy to access the notes on the basis that "the study was designed to determine a possible predisposition to psychoneurosis in the affected group". Presumably there would have been a minuted decision to this effect and...

Breathlessness and air hunger in ME/CFS

I know I brought this subject up a couple of days ago. Others probably also did. I suggested that breathlessness might be more common if we did not recognise early signs and adopt our behaviour to avoid it. What made me think of this is that I have this year discovered that I can walk up a hill...

UK - NICE guideline on Long Covid

Perhaps, in a display of solidarity and co-operation, it might be suggested that Jo Daniels be seconded to work on Long Covid. She could advise on the obvious anxiety felt by some patients about being mistaken for an anxiety ridden ME patient. Though this would, of course, be unfair to the...

UK - NICE guideline on Long Covid

It is interesting that there seems to be concern about inconsistent care within a group with a diverse range of symptoms. There seems to be no awareness that by addressing this, in the way in which they are likely to, they will create inconsistent care within the wider patient population...

News about Long Covid including its relationship to ME/CFS 2020 to 2021

From the BBC report, No mention of PVFS or ME or CFS. It seems, frankly, dishonest. Post-viral fatigue or a post-viral cough are well documented and common - we've probably all had an infection that has taken ages to fully recover from. Around one in 10 people with glandular fever has fatigue...

News about Long Covid including its relationship to ME/CFS 2020 to 2021

I suspect that we are also prone to breathlessness but recognise the risks and pace to avoid them. It takes several years experience.
