    Who is Simon Wessely?

Not a problem, will just make sure I clutter the internet with name checks. I bet Simon Wessley eats coco pops.

Invisible Illness A History, from Hysteria to Long Covid, 2026, Mendenhall (book)

I wouldn’t risk defaming him by suggesting it meets SLAPP unless you’re legally advised. People on the internet throw about accusations of things like defamation in the casual conversational meaning all the time, it’s very frustrating. Instead of confusing the matters using legal terms with...

Point is it’s not enforceable. The first test is would you win defamation? I already write about that. Second test is would invoking SLAPP in the UK result in any action? No, there aren’t any laws or legislation relating to SLAPP in the UK. Parliament has never drafted any and there’s a lack of...

Invisible Illness A History, from Hysteria to Long Covid, 2026, Mendenhall (book)

Just a concept. There is no law. The law is defamation. In any case I’m not discussing it further because it’s a pointless exercise for a non-lawyer. Anyone wishing to take such a case can seek proper legal advice.

This kind of debate is why I say defamation is incredibly complex. What I understand about it is that I know very little. But I know enough to know that it’s complex, requires specialist legal advice and is costly. It’s absolutely a quagmire and not something a lay person should attempt.

Invisible Illness A History, from Hysteria to Long Covid, 2026, Mendenhall (book)

You’ve quoted the section on juristrictional variations, the UK is listed there because it has different laws, specifically Defamation is cited. The Introdution section talks about court cases in Denver? And the First Amendment of the US constitution. You may wish to state that something meets...

Invisible Illness A History, from Hysteria to Long Covid, 2026, Mendenhall (book)

Interesting, although as its basis is the US Constitution it’s unlikely to be relevant to UK law.

The pages-long missives are also a type of sabotage. Unfortunately the tactics are less effective in the internet age.

So my knowledge of Defamation (more libel than slander) comes from a media perspective, I really don’t have enough knowledge of the subject to answer your question - but it’s a great question and I’d like to know the answer. My guesses would be the institutions involved in previous...

Why Chronic Illness Patients Feel Safer Talking to AI Than to Doctors

I don’t see this as stunning high praise of AI; I see it entirely as a damning indictment of the lack of humanity in medics and medical establishments.

Invisible Illness A History, from Hysteria to Long Covid, 2026, Mendenhall (book)

It’s crazy here, right? As I say it’s the threat which is enough that you wouldn't chance it. Your legal team would not advise you to “fight” entirely on the basis of cost, not on the basis of your chances of winning. In many cases, your legal insurance wouldn’t support it very far, they’d...

Invisible Illness A History, from Hysteria to Long Covid, 2026, Mendenhall (book)

It can bankrupt you defending the claim - that’s the real threat. It’s famously expensive, a notoriously complex area of law and therefore frequently very lengthy. The truth is an absolute defence to defamation, but you still have to spend years and money arguing. It doesn’t mean you will win or...

    United Kingdom: ME Association news

Probably here at S4ME online, as he has an account and you can see when he was last online… He is an employee of The MEA. If his employers are content with his performance then fine. From what I’ve seen of the board, the problems come from the top.

Cleaning tips and recommendations for cleaning products

I’m not sure, I guess you’d need to hold it at an angle to use the edge or corner of it to get right in. I think you can get handheld scrub devices for grout (they look like a giant electric toothbrush)...

Medical gaslighting: conceptual and theoretical foundations, 2026, Noble

Looking at the phenomenon through a Foucaultion lens is absolutely appropriate. Gaslighting (as per the film) refers to the behaviour in a romantic relationship, so it follows that the behaviours in a different context need to be labelled (workplace gaslighting, medical gaslighting, familial...

Cleaning tips and recommendations for cleaning products

New purchase! This time it’s the simple scrubber, it charges up and then you can hold it or attach it to the pole it comes with. It moves side-to-side rapidly. So far I’ve used it on -parts of the bath the spinning scrubber wasn’t doing too well -tiles and cupboard door -oven door - laminate...

Do you feel worse, better or the same when you wake compared to when you went to sleep?

Interesting thanks. I think I have a deviated septum. Based on your post I bought some nasal spray and it was already a lot easier to breathe/sleep!

Do you feel worse, better or the same when you wake compared to when you went to sleep?

I do in phases. A week or so of napping every day, then a week or two without. I certainly could not work though. Some of those info/scales of ME/CFS say “moderate” need to rest in the afternoon, some say nap. Many say moderate May need to use a wheelchair when out - I wouldn’t manage a...
