Pathophysiology of sleep disturbances/unrefreshing sleep in pwME?

Do we know why we get reverse sleeping? My pattern is sleep 4/5am through to 12/1pm it does change about at times (such as if I get a migraine and sleep all day, or am woken up a lot and go to bed early rather than nap). So my sleep has reversed, fine, I can cope with that, I made myself so...

Warning over patients left on antidepressants for decades

Well, obviously people shouldn’t be on antidepressants. I’m not saying depression isn’t real, but you do find that it’s people who think they’re depressed that take them. If I feel a bit down I go out for a walk. I don’t wallow in it and perpetuate it. Also, young people are inventing mental...

    Doctor's letters - personality evaluations

Yes, note where I wasn’t….I don’t think they were allowed to write “you know that Michael Douglas film where he can’t get a hash brown in Macdonalds and goes “postal” on a violent gun rampage, she reminded me of that”

Using time diaries to inform occupational therapy practice for people with [ME/CFS]: An exploratory study, 2025, Roxburgh et al

Maybe they’re auditioning for X-factor and giving it 101% Isn’t 42% of time asleep quite a lot? Doesn’t the average person sleep about 35% (8 ish hours) and this is closer to 10 who has a job where they work less than an hour a day these averages are just skewed nonsense aren’t they

Using time diaries to inform occupational therapy practice for people with [ME/CFS]: An exploratory study, 2025, Roxburgh et al

Can you imagine the reaction of a psychiatrist if they heard you were rigidly monitoring yourself to this extent? Sounds like type-A personality and perfectionism is at play!

Using time diaries to inform occupational therapy practice for people with [ME/CFS]: An exploratory study, 2025, Roxburgh et al

If only people would follow these regimented rules about how to divide up their time and energy. Then the researchers could do an evaluation on what difference it makes, they could study the degree of improvement That could be measured against the effort expended to prove its worth doing!!!But...

    Doctor's letters - personality evaluations

I have been pleasant and well-presented, from urology to gynaecology, ENT to psychiatry. I have also just been a “young lady” to rheumatology and psychiatry. They all do it, its code for “normal” or “unlikely to have been a guest on Jerry Springer/Jeremy Kyle” or “she turned up and Ive nothing...

It appeared to be badly-thought through. Now we have confirmation that it was.

Paul Garner on Long Covid and ME/CFS - BMJ articles and other media.

Amazing that he ever questioned whether it actually was PEM, given that it was so inconsistent for him and that more exercise didn’t induce it….

Safe Cell Phone for severe patient

A very basic suggestion - privacy screen for a smartphone. It sticks on, you can only see what’s on screen if you look directly at it, it slightly dulls the light, sideways on it just looks black. I used to have some issues with flicker on computers and they were resolved completely by a...

United Kingdom News (including UK wide, England, NI and Wales - see separate thread for news from Scotland)

I don’t like to compare and compete with other illnesses….but the figures on people with MS are just dwarfed. Also I know a lot of people with MS, at least 4. Whereas I only know of one “friend of a friend” with ME (and all you guys of course) weird.

A new estimate of 404,000 pwME. I don’t love the extrapolation to come up with that figure, but it’s better than anything else we have.

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2024 and 2025

This is the thing isn’t it. It doesn’t sound unreasonable to say that the money you get to cover the extra cost of your disability, should be spent on your disability. But we know the reality is that UC isn’t enough to live on, low paid part time work and UC isn’t enough to manage on, Councils...

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2024 and 2025

I have to say I am getting worried because I can see a line of argument to justify cuts. First it was “giving a voucher to pay for your aid/appliance” now it’s “how do you spend the PIP cash?” Both have the same underlying Current - prove you spend PIP on specific items related to your...

Paul Garner on Long Covid and ME/CFS - BMJ articles and other media.

sadly the Google translate wouldn’t turn it into English and I don’t really understand much Norwegian, so I treated myself to Dave Tuller’s excoriating blog which was linked in the article.
