UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2024 and 2025

It was so egregious I wonder whether it was deliberate, for some reason.

That link isn’t paywalled, the grauniad just asks politely whether you would like to pay before letting you read. Good to see that quote again - if the govt wants disabled people to work it needs to change employment law so they can’t be fired when they go off sick. Quite.

How to read while lying completely flat?

I use a tablet and I seriously considered a small Perspex table to lie underneath! I tried a number of stands and headboard clips thingys and they were all incapable of holding the weight, theyre not a good solution.

United Kingdom: Dr Suzanne O’Sullivan (BPS neurologist)

So true. I have an interest in ancient history and ancient civilisations, and made the mistake yesterday of clicking on some information which seemed interesting, unfortunately it fell victim to the “ancient aliens” theories. Who built pyramids? Aliens. Stonehenge? Aliens. Moai? Aliens. Cave...

They’re bound to have to u-turn on this. They will reform some stuff but not necessarily make giant cuts like they’ve been saying. People need to face the fact that there are a lot of disabled people, who need financial support to live. That’s just the way it is.

    United Kingdom: ME Association news

I have issues with my sentence construction and grammar. So does the person who wrote this webpage. The difference is they didn’t get a second and third opinion before pressing send. It’s very poor English.

I hope she’s able to think on what label I have for her opinions masquerading as fact. It starts with g and has 8 letters. I’ve a special detector for this sort of thing.

Nothing says public sector like centralising a decentralised service, which used to be centralised!

How a neuroscientist solved the mystery of his own long COVID

Man who works in neuroscience fails to cure own disability; is praised for curing own disability. We can all write daft headlines.

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2024 and 2025

Well I think the pandemic led to a lot of people becoming disabled and unable to work. You don’t like the fact that it’s disabled people in its thousands, to the extent they can’t work, therefore you’re going to make them poor so they have to work. I mean the alternative would be to help them...

United Kingdom: ME Association governance issues

We’ve all got ME, sometimes the brain doesn’t brain. If anyone can understand that, it’s us. A simple admission of making an error is fine. It’s the behaviours that caused the biggest problem.

Language Matters: What Not to Say to Patients with Long COVID, ME/CFS, and Other Complex Chronic Disorders, 2025, Nancy J. Smyth et al

P D White diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia and recommended GET and CBT back in these days. “Luckily” the physio dept wasn’t actually set up for GET (I had two sessions; 1. Do these exercises. 2. Did you do them? Ok, just keep doing them and increase the reps) I just had the psychological warfare...

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2024 and 2025

Just to let you know, when UC ask for your documents they look at them and often delete them. I’ve had to upload the same letter 5 times so far as they keep getting my housing payment wrong and each time they look into it, the letter has been deleted “for GDPR”. And every time they ask, they...

United Kingdom: News from BACME - British Association of Clinicians in ME/CFS

I think they said they have Board Members with ME = lived experience. But the MEA has the same and look how Neil Riley turned out!

I took my medical notebook with me. I’ve had it since I worked, it lists notes of conversations with the GP etc but also all the adjustments etc I had at work in the past, it was quite useful.
