It sounds like they're implying that this decision was somewhat based on recommendations of people with ME/CFS. I can imagine that some people who are sick might think that this is the best option to feel better faster, and ZonMw might have felt pressure to take on this idea.

That's a good point. All 6 of the significant genes after FDR correction from one of the main findings are on the Y chromosome (quoted below with links to GeneCards added). The groups differ by sex (6/8 female LC vs 1/5 female controls), so it seems to make sense that a group with fewer males...
