Mitochondrial abnormalities in the postviral fatigue syndrome 1991 Behan et al

This study was discussed years ago on the previous forum. My recollection is that none of Behan's stuff could be replicated elsewhere.

Neurometabolic Alterations in Children and Adolescents with Functional Neurological Disorder, 2023, Charney et al.

Literally everyone on the planet has experienced one or more of these adverse events.

Neurometabolic Alterations in Children and Adolescents with Functional Neurological Disorder, 2023, Charney et al.

I know I shouldn't be laughing because this is deadly serious for people who are told they have FND but this is actually insane and reads like a parody of some medieval text where everything is attributed to ghosts and demons.

Preprint Females are less likely to receive bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation in witnessed out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, 2023, Munot et al.

No surprise there. Previous research has shown that females having a heart attack are more likely than males to be diagnosed with anxiety by emergency room. The same beliefs extend to the general public as we see here.

Trial Report Naltrexone 6 mg once daily versus placebo in women with fibromyalgia: a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trialBruun 2023

Cohen's d of 0.23 is a small effect size, easily caused by functional unblinding because LDN causes obvious/known side effects. It's almost certain to fall below MCID perceptible by the patient or the clinician.

Trial Report Naltrexone 6 mg once daily versus placebo in women with fibromyalgia: a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trialBruun 2023

Komaroff's comments read like a parody. Personal clinical experience with ONE patient vs. n=100 double-blind placebo controlled trial.

Neuroimaging in Functional Neurological Disorder: State of the Field and Research Agenda, 2021, Perez, Carson, Edwards, Hallet, Stone et al

The rebranding of hysteria to FND has been a huge success for the neurobabblers. Many patients are initially hoodwinked by the respectable sounding name. Eventually though when they get denied any further investigations or access to healthcare, they’ll learn what FND means on the streets.

United Kingdom: Dr Suzanne O’Sullivan (BPS neurologist)

I think she means us paying attention to our symptoms. They believe that causes us to blow them out of proportion and become disabled.

    CAR-T therapy

They won't. People who can pay will pay, the rest will be left to suffer and die.

    CAR-T therapy

Norwegian rituximab trial failing doesn’t rule out an autoimmune process. In this meta-analysis of 4 trials of rituximab for Sjogren’s, rituximab didn’t do anything for the core symptoms including fatigue: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S1297319X17301318

Not gonna lie, this brought a tear to my eye.

Air Fryer worth it at all for someone with severe ME?

Very happy with my air fryer. Mine can go in the dishwasher. You do have to turn/shake things though. You can’t just put it on and walk away or the results end up uneven. The big lifesaver for me has been my instant pot however. With this you can truly toss everything in and walk away. It saved...

Spare a thought for the poor doctor who is Perplexed. Gotta find a scapegoat (mother).

Genome-wide Association Study of Long COVID, 2023, Lammi et al.

How do they know it’s complex? It could be very simple. No one knows anything about long covid, this blanket pronouncement is inappropriate.

Guardian: Private UK health data donated for medical research shared with insurance companies (UK Biobank)

I don't see how private insurance will be possible in the future given advances in genetics. Everyone is at risk of something.

Still to open Exploring Worry in CFS/ME, King's College London

My worry levels go through the roof when I see the words King's College London.

USA: National Institutes of Health (NIH) intramural ME/CFS study

Nature Communications is where various Nature journals send castoffs they won't publish, in exchange for cash. A fitting end to this NIH farce.
