    News from Cochrane

It’s most likely due to budget cuts at FHI. They got added funds during the initial covid-years, and had a huge role at the time. This must have led them to inflate their organization, because the budget cuts are more like going back to about the amounts they used to get. This had led to...

Socioeconomic determinants of ME/CFS in Norway: a registry study, Hilland and Anthun, 2023

At least in Norway. Other countries might value high income over higher education. And, yup. I’m experiencing this live at the moment. Been in need for urgent hospital care for maybe ME complications, maybe new issue - not important really. But the instant shift in attitude and how I’m...

Here is one of several articles from 2020, about doctors/GP not getting patients into their office. Some down to 0 a day, the doctor interviewed down from 20 to just 3-4 a day...

Scientific reports: Prevalence of long COVID complaints in persons with and without COVID-19, 2023 - Magnusson, Flottorp et al

So this is a register study, based on data from august 2020 to august 2021. Are these data valid at all? That early in the pandemic there wasn’t acess to testing for the general public. Testing was very restricted, and you were just told to assume you had covid if symptoms arised. Also we...

Not sure? I’ve just opted to get a ton of them. Luckily someone found cheap ones at the local grosary store for me, that I’m happy with. But wouldn’t be surprised if that is a thing :)

Advice for difficulty texting on smartphone due to issues with fine motor skills/coordination

Have you condidered a small tablet? I have an iPad mini, and mostly use apps on it. Bonus, I seem to tolerate some tv/YouTube on the smaller screen. A stylus/touch penn is really helping me. For use with both tablet or smart phone. It lessens the arm movement needed, and makes it easier hit...

Independent advisory group for the full update of the Cochrane review on exercise therapy and ME/CFS (2020), led by Hilda Bastian

And I agree with others, don’t belive Bastian is the issue with delays. I would be very surprised if those that have an interesse in keeping the review up would just stop trying to influence things behind the scene. Pure speculation of course, it could be any number of things avising delay...

Independent advisory group for the full update of the Cochrane review on exercise therapy and ME/CFS (2020), led by Hilda Bastian

But are people outside the charity involved? People on the new review team doing the work as part of their day job - in a public funded position…? That’s how someone in Norway got the communication between Larun/Fretheim and the prior chief of cochrane. As Cochrane Norway is situated at FHI...

Cochrane: Physical interventions to interrupt or reduce the spread of respiratory viruses, 2023, Jefferson et al

There is now a statement. Edit to add: by Karla Soares-Weiser, Editor-in-Chief of the Cochrane Library. https://www.cochrane.org/news/statement-physical-interventions-interrupt-or-reduce-spread-respiratory-viruses-review So they are at least adresseing the misleading plain language summary...

Lightning Process study in Norway - Given Ethics Approval February 2022

That’s not really what this hit piece was about. They framed this as patients advocates trying to get access to internal project documents and privat discussions among researches for an ongoing research project. Totally a spin to create outcry towards ‘terrible activists patients’ and paint...

Cochrane: Physical interventions to interrupt or reduce the spread of respiratory viruses, 2023, Jefferson et al

So. Why. Put. It. Out. There!? I’m not even mad anymore. This is too stupid. They know the evidence isn’t holding up. And they for sure must know so many people will clinch to this review as ‘evidence’ and deny using masks. And they must know this will cause people illness, long term...

Poll - In your opinion, is it worth experimenting with therapeutics of unknown efficacy?

I’ve stopped experimenting. As many others I’ve tried variouse things the first few years of illness. But nothing really helped. Worse, weird and sometimes adverse effects happened. And I also can get weird side effects or over reactions to ordinary treatments for non-ME issues. Don’t dare try...

COVID-19 infection does not seem to affect cognition in college students 2023 Francis and Thunell

They are doing it wrong. «The experiments were run online through a web browser using Javascript and HTML at the CogLab website.» Students did this tests at home, at their own pace. There are no data on the efforts students with covid had to manage the tests. Only wether their answers are...

Evaluating an interactive (ACT) workshop delivered to trained therapists working with cancer patients in UK 2022, Chalder et al

Are they planning to do a get/cbt-style study on people with fatigue from cancer treatment…? Because this sounds like preparation to me. Also - way to go, asking people what they think about the training directly after, nice way to make sure you get positive response. Before anyone had the...
