Doug Lindsay was bedridden for 11 years with a mysterious illness nobody could figure out, so the college dropout figured it out for himself. This is an amazing story
Yes, I came across that article yesterday and was enthralled by it, thank you for posting it - a truly amazing story indeed. Lots of stuff we can relate to: he fell ill, got progressively worse/weaker with time, had to give up college, became bedridden, got a fair amount of medical investigation which turned up negative and was going to be referred to psychiatry. But ended up figuring out the mysterious illness (which both he and his mother suffered from) by poring over numerous medical textbooks and getting an interested doctor onside to help with his theory of what it might be. A really inspiring read.
Thank you. So sorry. Was trying to read the screen against sunlight and couldn't see the colour difference.
About the other doctors saying it was impossible--my professors always taught me that new advances are usually by graduate students. People to new to "know" what things are impossible. So they find new possibilities. Obviously that could apply to people not actually in school as well, as it has here.
Merged thread An interesting story about a man who recovered from a mystery disease that I am sure many of you will find very familiar. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2019/sep/20/i-cured-my-own-mystery-disease-experience
One of the comments is from an ME patient, who was surprised the person had managed to escape a ME/CFS diagnosis.
