Borax, a versatile household cleaner, finds its place as a laundry detergent, a pesticide for ants and cockroaches and even a weed killer. But some social media users are also trying to promote it for questionable and potentially harmful uses, such as adding it to water or coffee and bathing in it. TikTok users posting videos of themselves ingesting borax have falsely claimed it can help treat of range ailments, including inflammation, joint pain, kidney stones, chronic fatigue and erectile dysfunction. https://globalnews.ca/news/9860780/borax-drinking-tiktok-trend/
Under normal circumstances you can't buy Borax in the UK and EU, you can only buy "Borax Substitute". https://inthewash.co.uk/cleaning/can-you-buy-borax-in-the-uk/ I did find this page which sells real Borax in the UK but the page says that customers can only buy it "with approval" but doesn't say who from. https://shop.hdchemicals.co.uk/products/sodium-tetraborate-decahydrate-borax-99-9
Borax is banned in food products in Canada and the US. However, we can buy it off the shelf, as a cleaner in Canada. Don't know if it's available in the US. It is toxic for people and pets.
Why has half the world turned into absolute gibbering nincompoops? Disclosure: I did hear my nan say something very like this in 1968 and I am the same age as her now, so I acknowledge the potential for bias in the results of my survey.
The devil is in the detail @Kitty. Your nan was approximating. In 1968 46.5% of the world were absolute gibbering nincompoops. I suspect you are also approximating. Sadly, the figure is now 53.2%. That is why the US Congress is having an investigation into the secret policy of the US intelligence services regarding UFOs. The nincompoop majority actually take seriously the nutters from the military who saw aliens every day before breakfast.
