Last updated Dec 18

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services gathered patients, doctors, researchers, and lawmakers in Washington, D.C., to tackle Lyme diagnostics and treatment gaps. Key announcements included renewing the LymeX accelerator for AI detection tools with a $10 million Diagnostics Prize, CMS guidance for chronic care management, a new Lyme webpage, and fresh NIH funding for research and pediatric programs. Kennedy highlighted ending patient 'gaslighting,' while Medicare will now cover chronic Lyme treatment; advocates welcomed the focus, though critics stress evidence for persistent symptoms.

Global Lyme Alliance on Facebook:

On December 15, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services convened a national roundtable on Lyme disease, bringing together patients, clinicians, researchers, and lawmakers for a public discussion on the realities of living with an often invisible illness.

Global Lyme Alliance attended the roundtable as an invited organization and is grateful to HHS for creating space for patients to be seen and heard at the federal level.

Announcements made during the event include the renewal of the LymeX Innovation Accelerator and the launch of a dedicated Lyme disease webpage at HHS. While much work remains, this roundtable represents a meaningful step toward fostering sustained federal engagement. GLA remains committed to supporting patients, advancing credible science, and working collaboratively to ensure that today’s dialogue leads to tangible progress for the Lyme community.
