    Not directly connected to this study, but here is an article from The Guardian about 'paradoxical lucidity' in people with conditions such as cancer and dementia. I wondered whether it could mean that there is something in this theory about dementia possibly being the result of a metabolic defect.

    There's one paragraph that also struck me in particular:

    “As a person’s organs begin to fail they get metabolic waste material in their bloodstream and their brain, and it mimics dementia,”

    I wonder if waste from disordered metabolic processes (as opposed to those from organ failure) might be enough to produce brain fog?
