Long COVID from a Clinical Perspective (recording of Feb 2023 talk)
-------
Dr Lambert is a consultant infectious diseases and genitourinary medicine who works in both public and private practice. A lot of Irish patients with ME/CFS go to him privately and end up with a diagnosis of Lyme or other tickborne infections based on private tests done in an independent lab in Germany, the specificity of whose tests I am sceptical about. He doesn't tend to mention ME/CFS unless specifically asked about it, preferring to talk about chronic Lyme and the like.

For more information please go to https://aonm.org/post-covid-reactivat... Long COVID and Long Lyme have many similarities. There appears to be residual brain inflammation and damage to the cranial nerves in both sets of patients, including the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system. There is also evidence to suggest damage at cellular level, with ‘crashing’ when pushed. There is autoimmunity and immune dysfunction as a result of infection with Lyme and co-infections, which in turn create a cascade of infection, inflammation, and autoimmunity. Professor Lambert discusses management of these conditions from his huge experience, as Chronic Lyme has taught us a great deal in terms of how to manage Long COVID.
