Meningitis outbreak in Kent, UK

It's been all over the news. Covered by most publications, so suggest anyone interested should do a search.
Situation is moving quite quickly.
The strain has been identified as the meningitis b, bacterial strain aka Menb.
Although Wes Streeting has just said it is a rare strain, other sources say it is the most common (80% of cases).

One thing I have gleaned is that the anti-biotics being dished out as a preventative measure is Ciprofloxacin.
Given the seriousness of the disease this is understandable.
But I think people tempted to go and get some themselves should be aware of the dangers of Fluoroquinolones.

I didn't realise that, I don't know why they are even still offered to anyone. The long term symptoms some people report are horrifying.

This is happening at my old uni, heard about it last night. Very scary. Poor kids. It's surreal to see Club Chemistry on the news

Glad it doesn't spresd super easily, hopefully they can get it contained. Meningitis is a nasty disease.

Ciprofloxacin gave me such severe side effects that I almost couldn't finish my course. I now tell doctors I'm allergic to it. Gross stuff.
