Strong and his team’s most recent breakthrough came after discovering that a tiny, specific fragment of RGNEF was able to mitigate the toxic effects of TDP-43. This fragment contained a small loop that appeared to interact directly with a “critical pocket” of TDP-43 and, in doing so, reduce its toxicity, he explained.
