In order to manage expectations, I am not aware, at the moment, of any such opportunities, but thought it would be helpful to have a thread on the subject. We know that ME does not discriminate, and therefore there will be PwME out there who have the qualifications and/or specific training and/or experience that make them suitable for researching ME. I'm hoping posts to this thread will highlight opportunities for these people, and that we can then get people who have that direct personal connection into employment where they can use their skills to perform accurate and worthwhile research to help us all.
I know a while back that Chris Ponting at Edinburgh Uni had funding for a PhD student but I'm assuming that position was filled - perhaps someone can correct me if I'm wrong.
Yup, the PhD student is in place. Carol M referred to visiting him and urged us to push our MPs for more targetted funding for biomedical research into ME.
Good idea, @Andy . I'll throw my hat in the ring. I've personally been plugging away on various data science topics and tools and have a decent grasp of the basics - Python and its data manipulation and visualization packages, UNIX/BASH, SQL, statistics (including those used in medical trials), and some other odds and ends. If anybody has a project that needs data processing/analysis, I'd be pleased to help out - or just tag along and learn something.
Just thought I'd list some ME researchers with ME. I can think of 5, 4 currently in research at Universities. Cara Tomas, Newcastle University https://me-pedia.org/wiki/Cara_Tomas Katharine Seton, Quadrum Institute, Norwich https://quadram.ac.uk/me-awareness-week/ Jaime Seltzer, Director of Science and Medical Outreach, ME Action Spent 1 year working at Stanford Genome Technology Center https://www.meaction.net/about/team/ Ami Mac, MD, Director of Translational Medicine and Patient Relations at Stanford Genome Technology Center https://profiles.stanford.edu/ami-mac (gave a speech on 11 May 2019 at #MillionsMissing San Francisco at 44mins timepoint Jamie Strong, Oxford https://www.meassociation.org.uk/20...-the-oxford-research-centre-13th-august-2018/
