NICE are looking for lay members for their prioritisation board. This may well be beyond most here but looks interesting

Lay members are expected to bring a perspective of patients, people who use services, and carers to selection and routing of topics. They are not expected to be experts in every topic but are expected to research topics they are unfamiliar with to understanding which parts of each topic are important to people and communities

What does the role involve?
• attending board meetings (see time commitment below for more information) and taking part in discussions to prioritise topics
• reading meeting papers
• commenting on documents between meetings
• keeping the board’s work confidential

What am I expected to do?
• Make sure the views, experiences and interests of patients or people who use health and social care services are considered by the panel.
• Identify areas of concern to people using NHS, public health or social care services.
• Review topic information from a patient, service user, carer or community perspective.
• Have the confidence to vote based upon your own view, even if others have a different view

How much time will I need to give and where?
It’s important that you are available for the board’s meetings.

• The 1st meeting will take place on 21 July, 10-12pm
• Meetings take place every 2 weeks and last for 2 hours.
• The meetings take place virtually.
• You will be expected to read the meeting papers in advance, which takes up to 2 hours.
