Can’t say I’ve tried it (although the lamp above my bed emits red light because I find it less tiring than white light), but I imagine many of the responses you’d get will be saying that it’s very likely some quakery. If you’d like you could add a poll to your post, might be useful.

I had the light therapy sauna several times. This was because I got free passes, and I was advised to try the red (you select the colour from the dial/menu) it made no discernible difference although I enjoyed having a free sauna.

I think Phoenix Rising has some threads about people trying it, with details about the products used (wavelength, intensity, etc). As I recall, it's no different from any other treatment for ME, in that a few people will claim it helped them, others might report that it made them worse, and most notice no effects.

I have a red light therapy device. To me it feels like taking a hot shower, just without the water. I'm not sure it has done anything for my ME, but it has contributed to PEM (though I have to stand up to use it, so it could be that stationary standing upright while using a device that helps dilate blood vessels is messing with my orthostatic intolerance, again similar to taking a hot shower).

@Midnattsol Thanks for sharing. That's insightful.

@Creekside Yes, seems to be the general consensus, I guess with everything else, works for some and not others or makes things even worse. Thanks for your reply

I can't answer your specific question because I don't have a certified device nor have I tried it for my MECFS or followed a protocol. I do have a home made (family member was an electrician) device, with near infrared bulbs, which I use for pain of the aching type (with the exception of headaches, I don't know that it would be safe) and find it to be very helpful for immediate pain relief.

@Haveyoutriedyoga . Thank you for your feedback.

    Thank you everyone.

I guess we will just have to try it.

My sister bought a red light therapy device to 'treat' Hashimoto. She was finally given medication that actually works.
