I've had a sore throat off and on for the last year which seemed different to other sore throats that I have had in the past. So I made an appointment with my GP. She found a lump on my neck. I was sent for an ultrasound and then had the lump biopsied. It was a relief to hear there were no cancer detected.

The lump is 2.6cm on my thyroid. Tests on my thyroid have always come back normal all my life.

Has anyone else had a thyroid nodule? I have yet to receive a follow up appointment.

I do wonder how our thyroid is affected with ME and whether it adds to our symptoms in some way?

I've had underactive thyroid off and on since getting M.E The initial viral onset produced 'extremely' elevated anti-thyroid antibodies. I also had a mild sore throat, ear and vertigo for 6 months during onset.

Interesting. I did notice I was getting flashes of heat at my throat. I forgot to mention that to my doctor. I guess I will learn more as time goes on. My normal thyroid tests are on the lower side of normal.

I also found out recently that there is thyroid problems on my fathers side of the family.

@AliceLily from what I've read is that it is common for women going through menopause to also have an underactive thyroid. Both thyroid and menopause-related symptoms are common, non-specific and overlapping.

Mine is most likely low too but I haven't had testing done in a few years. My immune system isn't fighting viruses as well either.
