My wife definitely lacks energy, but no way is she apathetic - far far from it. I think people with clinical depression tend on average to be apathetic, people with ME alone typically not. If they have both then things will be more complex I'm sure.

ETA: @adambeyoncelowe got there ahead of me.

I have not respect for the University of Bristol so I am dubious about all their work but this made me think about someone I used to know.

Years ago I went to a disabled group and one woman there was not very attractive. She was very overweight, now I am a fine one to speak, but she was everything cliched about the obese, slow, dull looking, not a lot of expression didn't engage with people much at all.

It turned out she had had her pituitary gland removed because of cancer and it her left her like that.

If their study helps people like her it will be all for the good. Though I suspect that they think everyone with CFS is like that.

    Now there's a neat observation.
