UK: National Institute of Health and Care Research: Reporting public and patient involvement (PPI) in publications guidance

The NIHR recognises that working with people and communities is important, expected and possible in all types of health and social care research and promotes the involvement of patients, public, service users and carers (PPI) in all stages of research (see, for example, the blog by Munro et al). This includes capturing impact and reporting PPI in research output such as peer-reviewed academic journals, consistent with NIHR’s refreshed strategic commitments for public partnerships.

While there are peer-reviewed journals specific to in-depth reporting of PPI, such as Research for All, and Research Involvement and Engagement, all research output should include proportionate information on PPI.
