"The Medical Research Council (MRC) is leading a £16 million investment in research consortia and a data hub to advance chronic pain treatments.

MRC is supported by Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council and Economic and Social Research Council and partners with Versus Arthritis, Health Data Research UK (HDR UK) and Eli Lilly.

The hub and consortia will combine as part of a £24 million initiative to establish an Advanced Pain Discovery Platform (APDP), supported by the UKRI Strategic Priorities Fund."

"Consortium Against Pain in Equality (CAPE), led by Professor Tim Hales, University of Dundee, researching the impact of adverse childhood experiences on chronic pain and responses to treatment

Psychosocial mechanisms of chronic pain, led by Professor Ed Keogh, University of Bath, researching how psychological and social factors, such as thoughts and feelings, personal relationships, and lifestyle, can affect and define chronic pain."

CAPE! Another acronym. They are never far away.

These are 2 out of 4 bullet points listing projects. Will half the projects funded be psychosocial? :(

Never fear - CAPE is not entirely psychosocial. There is a major biological component investigating the role of DNA methylation (epigenetic changes), genomics and changes in brain structure and function in the impact of early life experiences on pain in later life.

Funding opportunity: Mapping complexity of pain with the Advanced Pain Discovery Platform

"Apply for funding to investigate underlying mechanisms of pain across a range of conditions.

You must be based at a UK research organisation eligible for MRC funding.

You must explain how you plan to involve people with lived experience of chronic pain.

Your project will become part of the Advanced Pain Discovery Platform (APDP). The data must be made available to the APDP pain research data hub.

We will fund your project for up to three years. We will fund 67% of the full economic cost."
